I have no idea about HDR. It's probably in as they're pulling out all the stops with this one

And also because it has to implemented for the console versions anyway - or is that not a factor?

Those requirements make me think that the last-gen versions on PS4 and Bone are probably running on a customized low setting, probably even lower on a few select settings? Like how Witcher 3 on Switch was lower than low in a few settings to make it go at all. The current gen versions whenever they appear will hopefully be comparable to the high settings.

You do occasionally get games on the PC that mysteriously leave it out - but honestly unless you're running your PC into a high end TV, HDR is junk because monitors are so half-assed about it. I would be very surprised if Cyberpunk with it's RTX and DLSS implementation decided that HDR wasn't worth the bother.

Especially if AMD get their DLSS equivalent sorted, because that'll definitely make it's way to the the new consoles too - I reckon that could be revelatory. I suspect that CDPR is going to cop some flak if those PC requirements are targeting 30 - that's been an irrelevant frame rate on the PC since forever really. It'd put Cyberpunk 4k off the table until the next gen of GPUs happens, because it's not like there's anywhere to go for more power after the 3080.

I'm from the good old days when Ultra was meant for future hardware, not something current high end PC's could run at 60 or even 30. And that also meant there was often a significant visual difference going from high to ultra, not just a performance decrease.

Watch dogs legion did that, the RT settings, are lower than you can select on PC, but, using a custom settings file on PC, you can make the game look exactly the same as the console, the exact console settings...which then means, it looks good and runs a shit load better, as a 2060S can matche the console settings for looks and performance with RT on!?

Be interesting is there is a way of just matching the settings!

Is it December 10th yet?

What was that game series you really liked? Y'know, the one that you steal stuff? Theft, wasn't it?

I love Thief! How did you know? Also Outcast, Planescape, Deus Ex, System Shock.... Those were GAMES, amazing revolutionary experiences. Devs were pushing boundaries and revolutionizing games without any care about being able to run on a console back then. Just went all in with the craziest and most ambitious ideas.

Nowadays I might as well stick to consoles, ain't missing out on anything.

i think Layten some what covered that in another thread regarding the "machine learning"

Thinking about it, my biggest wish is that Cyberpunk turns out to be a brilliant mix of the games I mention here

I think more games have it, but even Microsoft’s own Flight Sim won’t auto switch it so you have to go into settings and turn it on before you start a game every time and then turn it off after. Not a big deal I know but it’s hassle and easy to forget and the implementation isn’t as good as on console anyway so it’s not always worth bothering.

So in theory you could end up with the XsX/PS5 version of a game looking better/nicer due to HDR on an OLED telly despite being able to crank the settings in the PC version up higher?

Or you just leave hdr turned on on Windows.

I don't understand HDR. I have a decent Samsung 4K TV which supports everything but all HDR seems to do is up the brightness and make colours washed out.

There’s a free app on the MS store called ‘insects’. Try that and see the difference between with hdr and 4k. The colours should certainly not be washed out, so you may have some TV settings wrong

An actual decent video, for once.

I think I'm going to go all in and micro-dose psilocybe for this one. I was settled on single-malts/Brewdogs (thanks again, @Lying Cat) and a bit of weed, but I want to be more plugged in.

I am not a tech junkie and I don’t even think 60 fps for this kind of game is essential, but the video above shows a game more advanced in graphics than anything I’ve ever seen.

There is no way new consoles will be able to recreate that level of RT and frames without compromising. I would hope that SX will be able to offer a full RT experience on 1440p@30fps. That’s the best I can think off.

In other news, please be warned that there are copies out in the wild now and people have been streaming on YouTube.

If you want to avoid spoilers, now would be a good time to, well... I don't want to say "lockdown", but perhaps ensure your DataBorders are HackSecure when you're jacking the matrix. Obviously it would be good if denizens of the forum could refrain from posting anything openly.

Perhaps we should have a good, old fashioned 30fps Vs 60fps argument instead.

HDR on all the time is pretty eye burning for other PC use, like the white screens of the internet, probably isn't great having windows static screens burning into my TV all the time, and finally, would still need to be toggled off for non HDR content all the time.

Yeah I think it’d be pretty horrible for normal use, but my PC is just a games machine that sits next to the telly in the living room. Apart from the odd bit of emergency web browsing it’s full screen games in HDR.

Either it’s badly setup OR the TV is not good enough to do it properly.

My previous TV was a 49” LG 4K HDR £500 set from about 2.5 years ago. All singing all dancing with regards to feature set but the HDR was useless. It did exactly what you describe. Made everything look dark, gloomy and worse no matter how much I played with the settings. Basically the panel : backlighting itself was so basic it couldn’t pump out enough brightness to do it.

If you’re is QLED or OLED or a recent higher end LED then it should be okay.

I don't even know what that means. Care to use words like a normal person?
