Cyberpunk 2077 - PS5 and XSeries versions out now + major patch

Skyrim is one of the most overrated games out there. I still can't believe how mediocre it actually was. From the writing to the combat to the characters... Really, really boring and charmless stuff. Morrowind is the last great game from Bethesda imo, everything else was pure drivel more or less. Fallout 3 barely makes the cut.

So, do I go Series X or PS5 on this? Here are the factors I'm currently considering:

- Will the Series X version be better out of the gate, as any quick and dirty upping of resolution and framerate will be based on the Xbox One X version, rather than PS4 Pro?

- Will the Series X next gen update (when released) be a tiny bit better than the PS5 version due to the console allegedly being a bit more powerful?

- Will the PS5 version be a pain to actually get onto the machine (seeing the problems with Ubisoft games wanting to install the PS4 version, etc)?

BUT

- Will the PS5 version have better load times than the Series X version, both in this incarnation and the proper next gen update?

- Will the PS5 version use the Dual Sense controller in cool ways, either right out of the gate or with the proper next gen update?

Hmmm. Where are other forumites with both machines leaning?

I have endless arguments about the mundane wasteland that is Skyrim. Outside of slicing thin air combat and horrifically generic dungeons, even the writing and quest design is leagues behind Oblivion a game 6 years older. That's my two cents!

Oh, I mostly agree. I mostly just wandered the landscape listening to the soundtrack! It makes for a nice walking sim.

Hmmm.

I go with the SX no matter what on this. I will not risk losing the extra power, even if its by a little.

But then I again I will not be playing before the next gen update, so there is plenty of time to see how things go.

Harsh man, I love all those games.

Hmmm.

Just go with the console you use most? Or wait for the inevitable Digital Foundry analysis.... :D

The NG patch releases won't be coming until next year anyway so you could always leave it until they drop if you want the best console experience*?

* And the main game might be patched a bit more at that point too.

SX. If they utilise the power it should be the better version of the two.

Although there won't be much in it I think. I would pick the version that utilises a more comfortable pad. So SX it is.

That rare moment where me and TSH are in agreement on something!

(except for Fallout 3, which I wouldn't allow to make the cut)

They are quite enjoyable landscape-wander-em-ups, at least.

That's a nice way of putting it. See, more agreement! Bethesda brings us all closer. :P

I can kind of recognise that the writing is better in the Witcher 3, and that the stories are more complex, and the interaction between the characters is more human or something, but finishing Witcher 3 turned into a real slog that I only managed through bloody mindedness, whereas I enjoyed every second of Skyrim and could have gone on wandering about twatting dragons forever. So what I'm saying is, does this game have cyber dragons?

Mate got sent a copy by some Swedish guy he plays R6 with. Got to play it for a few hours today.

As dull as neon dish water. Visuals on point. Gameplay and everything else of substance not so much.

It'll probably end up a metacritic 99 though.

Who needs metacritic? Your thorough review after a few hours of play was really on point.

This is why I'm holding off until the reviews come through now. If they have an embargo on until the day before release it means they are not confident in their product so rather wait and get a balanced view of the game and performance on various platforms.

I know it's only £40-50 but want to know that what I'm buying will give me a good experience and not be a broken buggy mess that will need to have multiple patches to fix it. Rather wait and have a better experience. Not as if I haven't got much to play whilst I wait :D

So not as good as Skyrim then. :coffee:
