Holy crap it starts TODAY. Some really interesting predictions above my post. Neure player of the tournament? A goalkeeper? Unlikely!

Final: Germany beating Portugal.

Top Scorer: Messi... oh wait.. I mean... I have no idea with this, I'll go for Klose

Player of the tournament: Ronaldo

England progress: Finish in second place in the group on 6 points after a defeat with France. Lose convincinly in the quarters in normal time.

Out-there prediction: Holland fail to progress out of group of death

Player of the tournament: Mesut Ozil

England progress: Second in group, beaten by Spain in quarters

Out-there prediction: Denmark to reach the final out there enough? Really strong feeling they're going to surprise everybody.

Team Bendtner is going all the way.

(Or maybe not)

Final: Spain beat Italy

Top Scorer: Torres. Okay, not really, Bendtner. HE WILL COME GOOD ONE DAY.

Player of the tournament: Iniesta

England progress: Draw with France, beat Sweden, and The Sun gets excited because we just need a result against the "minnows" of Ukraine to progress. They herald Rooney's return and have to throw out all their back page layouts when a dismal performance from him and the team results in a 1-0 loss and an exit from the tournament. The Sun begins its "Hodgson out" campaign with a picture of him doing a Nazi salute with some Ukraine fans, which later turns out to be a picture of him waving at someone.

Out-there prediction: A match-fixing scandal.

Carrick should have been there too. I'm led to believe that he didn't want to go as a bit part player, that shouldn't have even being a consideration. Hodgson should have said you're starting when fit, end of.

Nonsense. Where would it end? Every player would start making the same demands.

Final: Ermmmm.... France beating Germany

Top Scorer: Gomez & Torres tied

Player of the tournament: Gotze

England progress: 3rd in the group

Out-there prediction: Ukraine & Russia both win their group, or the big "R's" - Ronaldo, Rooney, Ribery & Robben, all fail to score.

Exactly. Notice how Carrick is now apparently indispensable, but only because every other person who can play there is injured. It's a bit rich for him to complain now as if he'd have shown this undroppable class in a consistent manner in his previous caps this wouldn't be an issue. In the end it's his loss, not England's.

So...predictions for today?

I'm going to go for a draw for the opener. Maybe 1-1. Poland with a late equaliser to send the crowd wild.

The second game is tricky. I quite fancy the Czechs to surprise a few people.

Poland 1 - 1 Greece

Russia 1 - 2 Czech Republic

Final prediction: Saturday's papers to be full of awful puns on Greek debt/austerity/bail-outs

'Greeks bailed out by last minute equaliser'

'Greeks in debt to Samaras'

'Greek austerity infront of goal'

Final: Germany beating Russia

Top Scorer: No idea,w ho knows what freak results there might be in the groups. I'll go for Muller for some reason!

Player of the tournament: Ozil

England progress: 4th in group

Out-there prediction: Spain top their group but go out in semis to Russia... England don't score a goal and Denmark scrape through the group of death. Hodgson turns up to the press conference before England's final group game naked and is quietly ushered out of the room by a PR person holding a clipboard round his waist and is never seen again.

Carrick's easily the best midfielder England has. It's absurd he's not one of the first names on the team sheet let alone all this bollocks about how he should be in because of injuries etc. I don't even know why anyone knocks him for not showing his club form for his country, name one English player who has.

Nobody's going to remember stats and Carrick and Richards' (potentially legitimate but ultimately irrelevant) grievances. They're going to remember two players who let their egos get in the way of playing for their country at the European Championships.

Final: Holland beat Germany, despite the reverse happening in the group stages.

Top Scorer: Van Persie

Player of the tournament: Ozil

England progress: Knocked out by Spain in the QFs.

Out-there prediction: Ireland make it to the semi-finals where they are knocked out by Germany.

In the end it's his loss, not England's.

Hmm. If he'd gone we would've had another player who can actually pass, and with the injuries we have he'd have a very good chance of starting. He all but retired himself from international football by the sounds of things though, which was a stupid thing to do, as you never know what will happen. He should know by now, given his long career in football, that players can go from the fringes to the first team with very little notice.

If that Czech team is the same as played Scotland in qualifying they'll get humped, very average side.

Spain will obviously take the top spot, but after that it's pretty hard to pick between the Czechs, Poles and Greece. TBH none of them are that good. Rosicky has been playing well and may be the difference, in terms of getting out of that group.

When's the deadline for the team? I have a good team but I'm thinking the fact Germany and Holland are in the same group could scupper me. I'm thinking for the group stages I might stick in some cheaper Russians.
