Soul Calibur 2

It's odd, but as much as I loved the first one, and initially loved the second, I'm now bored to death within 5 minutes of play.

I don't know why to be honest, it just feels so stale and old to me. How is everyone else finding SC2 now that the dust has settled? Still enjoying it as much as the first one, or has it not stood the test of time?

This is another game I can't really get into. It feels like too much of a button basher(which I know it's not), but unless I give it some time and learn the moves I'm never gonna get past that feeling. Just don't feel the urge to play it and whenever I do it just bores me.

;)

I've tried in vain to get into SC2, but the real problem is, I dont live in a house with 4 other lads anymore. 2 player is obviously where all fighting games get used properly, but these days with so much uni work and living with my girlfriend, I just dont get time to play multiplayer games as much..

which is a shame, i guess, as SC2 is probably the best fighting game ever. ;)

After playing VF4:evo (and not even extensively) SC2 just feels so cheap. Cervantes needs a complete overhaul for starters. I loved the ps incarnation, but this just feels "meh".

People who say there isn't much difference between SC2 and SC graphically are talking rubbish.

So true. I kind of liked this the one day I played it with a mate, but cannot be arsed to play it single player.

Dunno, fighters just aren't as much fun anymore as when you were trying to master Yoga Noogies.

I picked it up fairly recently so haven't had time to become bored of it, but some things are incredibly annoying. At the moment my major complaint is not being able to restart a weapon master mission immediately and having to wait, then press start, then wait for the map screen to load, then select the challenge, then start the challenge, then wait for the load........ARGH). Also, if I don't unlock a non-ruined version of Team Battle mode fairly soon then I'll be very disappointed.

I bought it, went over to a mates house to play it. At first I didnt enjoy it very much so I left it there for him to play. I went back and got it here the other day and now I cant get enough.I bought the Xbox version. Since I recon the big controller would still be better than that little Cube pad made out of cheap plastic.

Now many matches later I have no problem what so ever with executing moves with the X pad.

Its great!

I enjoyed playing as Raphael but never really got into any of the other characters, learning the moves for another fighter was just too daunting, especially as so much can be achieved by simple button mashing.

I hope that fighters get a radical overhaul sometime soon, I like them in theory but the actual games leave me cold most of the time.

The Soul Edge series' most common feature is that they're all games destined to gather dust on the shelf rather quickly. Once the initial excitement has gone, it's over for ages until you dig it out for a while again. And then it goes back on the shelf.

Unlike VF4: Evo were you feel the need to keep your 733t skills fresh. I haven't, and I feel a little ashamed by it.

Soul Calibur was a much better game.

SC2 gets so many things 'off' without bringing anything that new to the table. In graphics and design terms it is a step back from SC... the characters looking garish and angular. Mitsurugi and Maxi looked better in SC, whilst Raphael is possibly the worst character design in any fighter ever (with the exception of the robot detective from SF3:3rd Strike). Having said that Yunsung, Talim and Link are ace, and it does play a lot more responsively. I just think that when the biggest change they've made to Taki is giving her big Tecmo-breasts then the Soul Edge series has taken a wrong turn somewhere. Something new next time maybe Namco?

If you cared to unlock different costumes that wouldnt be a problem.

I think Raphael is great, his fencing style is a new and inventive and is warmly welcomed by me. The graphics are sweet sweet sweet. Obviously the game cube

version is not as nice as the X version. Link is a kid, he wears shorts ;)

.::: It's only played when friends are around. But one of them plays Link in a way that is just plain annoying. On of the others tried to get him down by choosing infinite health but he just got thrown out of the ring again and again.

Now he might just be good, but something is niggling that Link might be just a tad too powerfull. That or my pride is kicking in.

In any case because of this 'Link-inciden't, some friends are less willing to play the game.

Link as far as I'm aware is the only character to have a standard throw(forward facing) that pulls your opponent behind you, meaning you can win a hell of alot of matches in one move (walk back to the edge, wait for opponent to get close and then throw him out the ring). You can carve through most of Weapon Master mode with ease, but I haven't put it to the test much in multiplayer yet.

And Raphael looks like he stepped into the wrong game. His stance is awkward and his general movement really doesn't fit in with the other characters. Also his face has about as much "character" as a piece of cardboard.

His stance is the stance of a fencer. You know, one hand behind the back as in the olympics.

That may be, but alongside Astaroth. Taki etc. he looks anachronistic, and moreover, just plain bad.

I can't believe I'm the only one who thinks Raphael looks shit.

I think he looks pretty cool to be honest. Now, one might always come up with arguements like "hes French" and assume that would justefy it.

Also, I dont see what character design has to do with gameplay.

I do see some of your point, I think they should have saved themselves from coming up with "sharade" and Lizzardman.

raphael is my fav too, he just has a habit of doing what you want him to do.

the only bad thing about SC2 is that its very hard to really master, and even when i thought i was getting good my mate beat me who had never played it before, that got me down and i haven't played it since.

still good fun for a while, a messing around with the characters is fun. just remember voldo is better than you think.
