I picked up manhunt from the pc world sale yesterday.

Im currently finding the white trash level a bit difficult which is annoying, but on the whole im enjoying it. The game does however make me feel uncomfortable on occations which i suppose what the developers intended. But at other times it makes me laugh, eg. the comments from the director or the hunters.

The game is a bit repetitive, does the game change the further you get into it?

you get guns. The firefights change the gameplay quite significantly. IMO. I'm probably overstating it a bit though.

Also, the plot doens't really kick in until about 2 thirds of the way through if you're looking for that.

Also, if you've got a headset, play the game with that. I don't have ome, but you get the director barking in your ear, and any coughs you make can be heard by the baddies.

I think i'd be scared shitless with headphones on, Ive already got a 5.1 setup it bad enough.

Ive got the nailgun, but the ammo is kinda scarce to say the least.

ah, who needs it?

The only thing I'd say negative about the game is that the baddies are a bit stupid AI wise. bang on something, hide in the shadows, wait until they turn up, kill 'em. repeat. they do get a bit cleverer over time, but there's just something about the game that hooked me. And not the violence - it's not THAT bad!

My friend was over the other night with the headphones, the director speaks to you as you play, what a diamond idea. Somehow i can see the headphone inhanced game becoming more promenant in the future.

Game seems like another rockstar hit, not to say I like it mind...

Originally, I wasn't going to buy this as it sounded like shock tactics for no other reason than to sell more copies.

But the lack of hype and the Edge review led me to get it last week. It is very good, especially with the headphone/mic, but I got Broken Sword for xmas and nothing else has got a look in since then.

One of the few games I've bought that I've had to return because I didnt like it. I found it dull and repetitive. I didnt "get on" with the control system, aiming weapons was difficult, a la GTAIII, and the camera doesnt help. The execution scenes could have been more varied as well. And I'm a fan of survival horror, and of those type of exploitation movies it apes. I found the stealth aspect deeply unrewarding, Splinter Cell and even Beyond Good and Evil do the smae thing more succesfully IMHO. 3 out of 10 is about right. Doesnt appear to have sold many copies either so I'd expect it to be heavily discounted in the New Year sales.

I rented it and had a good bash at it but I never "loved" it. I found it a tad repetative, and the execution scenes lost their sparkle really quickly. I thought the hand to hand combat which you were forced into on many ocasions was awful, barely a step up from GTA's combat.

I liked the feel of it though, and it did have me tense and pumping with adrenaline in parts. But this was spoilt by the awful controls (In my opinion)

I think I've only been forced to engage in hand to hand combat twice. Any other time it was my own choice. But it's definitely the weakest aspect and requires a bit of luck.

Gunplay is marvellous though. So good I desperately want Rockstar North to make a Die Hard game.

After the first few hours of playing it I found it (dispite having a really great atmosphere) a bit shit, the combat just did'nt work and neither did the stealth, I just had to turn the damn thing off becuase I really was'nt having much fun.

However the next day I did feel the urge to have another go, and it just 'clicked' it took me a while to understand the pace of the game and as soon as I did it was fun city. Guns are introduced early in the game and work fantasicly well far better than the GTA games, and quite possibly the best gun play in any 3rd person game (at least that I've played). But having said that a lot of the time I kept to my knifes and stuff just to keep to the atmosphere of the game.

Its certainly my game of the year (well I still have Prince of persia to complete so I'll see.)

Get past that stupid scrapyard level, and it blossoms like no other game I've played this year. The penultimate level had my heart thurruping like a turbo headache. And never have I felt so dangerous - and vulnerable - when wielding a gun in a game before.

It's on my tall shortlist for game of 2003.

The gun is a marvellous thing. With it you feel in control yet if you have a gun, chances are the hunters have them too. You're no stronger than they are either - but they don't go for head shots. Makes no difference when they have AKs.

Then when you lose it you feel naked. I'd argue that it's one of the best implementations of firearms in any game.
