I’m using optical audio from my One X , no issues here. You just set it up in the Audio section of the settings page and make sure the format you are using matches what your audio system supports.

This might sound silly but every problem I’ve ever had with optical audio has been because the cable hasn’t clicked in properly. Give it a good shove at both ends.

Genuine question: why are people still using optical, now HDMI supports it just as well? I haven’t used an optical cable in years.

For me it's because I get a delay through HDMI the way my setup is wired.

I've ended up setting up the Xbox direct into the soundbar through HDMI and hooked up the PS4 Pro to the second 4k HDMI port on the TV for image and into the soundbar via optical for audio.

I think the TV is introducing lag for Dolby Digital and I can't figure out how to stop it.

Ah well, at least it's all working now.

I use it to play Spotify via Xbox One for when I want music without turning on my TV. I use regular HDMI otherwise.

The Samsung TV (KS7000) I use has a sound delay when passing through 5.1 sound via HDMI, in Game mode only. It’s a very specific bug that’s never going to get fixed given the age of the TV.

I’m disappointed that the Xbox Series X appears to have removed the optical output. It’ll mean I’m limited to stereo unless I buy a new TV or some different audio equipment.

Yes, that's it.

Worth going for the full thing though - there's an audio only download too.

This is a brilliant podcast! Listened to the first half of it this morning during my allocated “once a day escape the house” session and it flew by.

Some really interesting stuff / reveals (well they’re reveals to me) in it and I’m sure it’d prove interesting to anyone who’s into gaming :)

Just switched on my OG Xbox to find there's an update required.

Haven't switched on my One X in the other room yet. Both already had the new dash.

What's this one for, anything major?

(or I could just exercise some patience and find out for myself in about 10 minutes)

Is anyone having issues playing games that are on game pass?

None of my games will load. Just hangs on the opening screen  then says "something went wrong, the game took too long to load"

Tried a hard reset and no joy.

Edit:- I think my Xbox X might be fucked. It seems any game I try including disks takes forever to load or just fails.

No, but ever since the lockdown stuff spread across Europe (which may be a complete coincidence rather than Live acting up because too many are isolating simultaneously) I noticed achievements don't unlock for me until I quit the game (instead of just putting the console in sleep mode) and launch it again. Not really a problem because who cares about achievements, but weird nonetheless. Launching the game I'm currently playing from scratch often results in a bunch of achievements popping one after another.

Just bought the version 2 of the Elite controller. I've held off even though I'd wanted to buy the original pad ages ago. Reason being was the amount of people saying it was an awesome pad but was a bit shoddy in its build quality.

Bit late now, and I really should have googled beforehand, but didn't, has it ironed out the previous iterations problems?

Has anyone done the live gold to ultimate upgrade recently? Trying to get a friend to do it but want to make sure it still works as it did.

He does get the "1 month for £1 followed by £10.99" option so I'm assuming that would actually then convert all of his remaining months of gold but it's always a leap of faith!

As much as I adore it, I’m on my second Elite 2 and this replacement one had minor stick-drift out of the box. The first one developed drift after a few months. The replacement service is good but it doesn’t instil much confidence.

The most frustrating thing about the stick drift issue on any type of Xbox pad is that I'm sure it could be solved with just a software update, to allow you to slightly increase the dead zone at the stick centre.

I've replaced 7-8 analogue stick modules in otherwise perfectly fine controllers for myself and friends and it's a massive pita, each time requiring de-soldering of 14 tiny solder joints, taking care not to damage the conductive foil, and then re-soldering each joint.

That’s true. I was amazed to find there was no deadzone setting in the Accessories app for configuring pad profiles. The stick drift on my new pad is only noticeable in-game on the COD Warzone map, where the cursor drifts downwards, but it’s still unacceptable for an expensive new controller.

Increasing the deadzone to compensate would have zero impact on any actual games and would fix the issue entirely.

I've been having this exact problem. Hard reset always fixes it but it's bloody annoying
