Xbox One Console Thread

I've seen/heard a few people who say "Xbox" then stop until they see the onscreen prompt. It's totally unnecessary just say the whole thing and it'll parse it.

"Xbox go to achievements"

"Xbox snap machinima"

Etc.

When you're playing Titanfall the only phrase you need is "Xbox record that" so much so that you should just need to say "Xbox" and it starts recording and says "I got this"

When you tell the xbox to record that how long does it record for the clip by default?

25-30 seconds.

Also remember it's THE PAST 25-30s of gameplay. So you should use it when something has just happened that you to save.

If you wanna record something you're about to do you should snap GameDVR and start recording a clip

I had my first go on a xbone yesterday afternoon, mainly on titanfall and as i said in the thread its amazing - a system seller for sure.

I liked it, the pad is a little odd but very nice - to get the best pad of all time i think you need to mix bits of the ps4 pad and bits of the xbone pad so says it all really, both have great pads. I quite liked the UI - makes more sense on a console than on a laptop!

I was quite surprised how small the kinect sensor was, mind he had a 55" telly so maybe that hides some of the size but it looked much nicer and smaller than the original one - didn't really notice it was there. Had a funny moment when i asked if the xbox was playing music over game soundtrack which of course brought up the music menu telling me i couldnt play music over the shoundtrack - i guess it answered the question ;)

Overall it seems a nice enough machine, a faster xbox in higher res but then MS had far less to do than Sony did over the terrible (IMO) PS3. I was a little surprised that PS4 games do look better than Xbone, i didnt think it was going to be noticeable and its not a gulf but there seemed more jaggies in Xbone versions of games than on my PS4 - nothing that would concern me in reality and as i said i liked it - i think in a TV stand the xbone looks fine and part of your AV setup so no complaints there.

Would i buy one, titanfall is reason enough tbh and if i didnt play so much BF4 with so many people from here and mates at work i would very much consider jumping ship to play titanfall - not sure i can justify both...

I turned on my Xbox 360 yesterday and the thing that struck me was has vehemently my hands rejected the 360 controller now that they've become accustomed to the new one. Really is a big step up on the sticks and the battery pack is totally hidden in the new world.

I'm actually really surprised that the PS4 is selling so well considering that the games on offer seem relatively limited at this stage. Xbox has Forza and Titanfall in addition to the multi-platforms titles.

I guess it's a combination of the horrific PR and the price, or perhaps a lot of people were looking for the definitive Battlefield 4 version (PC excluded). Will be interesting to see if Titanfall starts shifting stock.

In other news, I've been fairly disappointed by the recent system update. It failed to deliver Dolby 5.1 Digital and seems to have made the system more unstable rather than more stable - I now get the bug where you get a black screen after hitting the Home Button on occasions requiring a full reboot. It also hasn't really sped anything up at all - I find the app switching and snap activity quite sluggish a lot of the time.

That update was the starter - the main course is in a couple of weeks or so I think. I was listening to a podcast where one of the guys was saying that they've designed the OS in a way that allows them to put out more updates more frequently than the almost annualised releases we used to get.

Fingers crossed as the OS has a lot of potential. It just needs to be super snappy and rock solid. I'm currently scared to hit the home button and when I do basic things like click on a friend it can take aaages* to load their profile.

Well, in the media-savvy world we now occupy, most will know PS4 is cheaper and more powerful. With the better console version of all multiplat titles. And I guess buying for exclusives is the long game. PS4 is dry right now, but it's a 5-10 year investment, and there's plenty to play if you count indie stuff. As for Titanfall, I'm sure it will sell some bones, but many PS4 buyers (anecdotally and on here) still have a 360, and will play a likely very decent version of the game on that. All of which is why I'm not surprised that PS4 is shifting a lot more boxes.

That's if they can hold out the extra two weeks that the 360 version got delayed by.

I'm beginning to wonder whether they're hiding 360 footage so much because it looks great and will prompt people to not bothering with the upgrade to Bone, or because it runs poorly and don't want to cause outrage :P

Just be aware that it has a freemium style currency system apparently, although they're charging a bit less than the normal £400 - £60 it still stinks. EA, it's in the the game!

EDIT: My mistake. Bad info on my part. At launch it's in game currency but they say they may enable IAP down the line.

This seems like a strange point to make - that's only Forza at the moment as Titanfall isn't out yet. Are you that surprised really that everyone that bought a PS4 didn't opt to pay nearly £100 just so they could then buy Forza?

It seems strange given that there's not much obviously on the horizon to fill the gap on the PS4. I can play Forza, Battlefield and Titanfall (beta now, final game next month) on my Bone but I would only be playing Battlefield on a PS4 if I had one. I'm obviously saying this in the knowledge that the other titles on PS4 don't interest me at present, but I don't think that's necessarily an unusual viewpoint insofar as Forza and Titanfall are pretty well recognised as blockbuster titles.

I just find it weird that on a gaming forum, where we all claim to love games, the console with what feels like inferior games catalogue has so much love. Feels a little bit like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Sure, you can argue that the resolution on cross-format games isn't as good but, really, do we give a shit when it all looks so good anyway?

Yeah, doesn't he realise that Microsoft are the devil incarnate who won't stop until they've snatched every Xbox One owners first born child and that Sony have created a platform of gaming nirvana for the goodness of all mankind, or something?

I'm sure Xbox exclusive gamers would if the tables were turned on this current situation.

A few would but I doubt anyone actually really gives a shit. As long as the port isn't offensively bad and you have fun it doesn't matter.

Forza, Titanfall, Peggle 2, Killer Instinct and Dead Rising 3 is a damn fine launch window.

Calling it an inferior games catalogue a couple of months after release is pushing it a bit really I think - both are limited. Also, say that you're mainly interested in cross platform games - you said yourself that Xbox games might suffer a bit with resolution at the moment, why would someone pay for a more expensive console for an 'inferior' version of a game?

Your original point boiled down to that you're surprised the PS4 is selling more despite the Xbox having Forza. I didn't think it was surprising. (You should've said Dead Rising)

There are plenty of reasons for the PS4 to be selling more at the moment but I don't think the price can be underestimated really, regardless of the games currently out.
