Coincidentally I told the Mrs last night she can continue watching it on her own. I’ve seen every series, but this one has literally bored me to sleep twice now. Wooden acting, huge plot signposts, cartoon baddies, and to be honest I just don’t care what happens any more.

Well, I thought last nights episode was fantastic, classic lod stuff. And the ending was a cracker!

 

I was really sad to hear about the Guardian's Sarah Hughes death though. Her blog on lod has always been a hugely enjoyable part of the watching experience for us.:(

Jed pulls off heart in mouth moments with aplomb and the ambush was no exception. He always surfs (Bodyguard's utter pants ending not withstanding!) the plausibility spectrum so well, with just enough believability to suppress the ludicrous, imo anyway. I also thought it was a neat subversion to see the firearms unit effectively deal with the ambushers too. All too often shows will wipe the police out when in actuality you'd expect trained gun carriers to be quite good! I would like to hear the characters explain away some background checks on all the balaclava men that bit the dust tho!

I don't think that something needs to be plausible to be enjoyable. 

 

I think plausibility and enjoyability are two very distinct and separate metrics. Sure they can be correlated at times, but not all the time.

 

Otherwise how on earth do you explain films like Face/Off?

They really need to make the 'Previously on Line of Duty' thing more comprehensive if they're going to be harking back to earlier seasons like this. I had no idea why the bloke from series 2 of The Office was there, or why that was a big deal. Completely forgot who he was and why he was important.

 


The Chief Constable is Aliser Thorne from Game of Thrones.

Presumably they’ll have to take him down in order to avoid the unit being folded and Ted forced into retirement.

It really doesn't feel like they're getting close to a conclusion and I thought that they haven't yet commissioned another series so this might be the last...

 

I've loved this series so far and last night's episode was great but I hate what they've done with Kate.

 

Her suddenly going to bat to defend her boss this episode was really out of character I thought.

 

This series is 7 episodes, and we've had 3. I saw a Q&A at BFI when series 5 started, and I'm sure he said that both 6 and 7 had already been commissioned. He likes to take things outside the show in the marketing so my theory is his refusal now to say 7 is coming in interviews is part of making people think it is ending and wrapping up, along with Ted being pushed out, and then there's a twist that its not over.

Steve's new assistant cop at AC-12 is able to recite clearly and without hesitation an insane amount of information during the interviews. The plot is ridiculous and makes no sense, but it's this that irks me more than anything!

yeah this bothers me too - she's far too keen to show off what I'm guessing is some 'actor training background'!

Did anyone else spot the spelling mistake on the computer screen (DEFINATELY) when Davidson was messaging on the computer? My memory of the previous series is a little foggy but I seem to recall this "mistake" previously. Significant or not, what are your thoughts?

In the last season, H had previously misspelt the word in missives and then in a subsequent episode Hastings did the same.

 

As for this episode’s cliffhanger, it’s even more dopey than ever (spoiler contains evidence as to what must have happened)

Kate and Arnott are seen together in the series preview trailer, in a scene we’ve yet to see and is clearly still to feature. Not that I’d imagine anyone would believe Kate was a goner.

I thought the exact same thing :lol:

 

There seemed to be a particularly excessive amount of three letter acronyms in this episode.
