I went to the game last night and I thought we were brilliant. Replace Shelvey with Allen, and then Downing with someone better, and that first team looks ace. Just need to build up the rest of the squad now - we had mainly defenders and (limited) central midfielders on the bench. Adam was shocking when he came on.

I loved a tweet from Empire of the Kop yesterday which said "Adam has just fouled himself" :)

Downing may possibly get back to his best under Rodgers.

Why sell him though? Even for £22m. If anger wants to stay surely that's better than getting £22m and wasting halfl of it on someone that's no where near as good.

Unless Agger has decided he wants to leave, then I can't see any logic in selling him. We have no decent cover available to play a lot of games at CB; Coates and Wilson aren't ready yet, Carragher's lack of what pace he had makes him a liability these days (how many penalties did he give away last season?) and we have nobody else. And it's not as if there are plenty of proven CBs around that would either be available, or cheaper than £22m, so it doesn't make any business sense. Though the various deals we've had to do to shift people shows we clearly don't have a lot of that at the club.

Whether Carroll and Agger go or not, we still need CB and striker cover, a penetrating winger and if one were available then some cover for Lucas. Obviously if Carroll and Agger do go then it makes getting new men in for those positions is even more pressing.

Where do people think we can finish based on the squad we currently have? I'm saying 5th is the best we can get at the moment. I certainly don't see Arsenal and Chelsea having seasons as inconsistent as last season so the top-4 will be out of reach; we'll be competing with Spurs, Newcastle and possibly Everton for 5th again.

First Luis Garcia, then Xabi Alonso now Agger. We always sell my favourite player :( Going to have to make it Charlie Adam next

Rumour is he will be a part exchange deal for Clint Dempsey

Meh,if City come in with a £20m+ offer or throw in Adam Johnson with their previous valuation then the Club should bite their hand off. Its clear that Rogers must sell before he buys and selling Agger could give him the funds to improve the attacking options. Its no like the club are selling to a rival because in all honesty Liverpool won't be challenging for the top spot for a long time yet. Agger is hugely injury prone too and without him maybe its time for Coates to step up.

I think Agger is an exceptional centre-back and exactly the player we need there under this manager but I'd probably have to agree given that he's missed hefty chunks of every season as far as I remember. I'd guess he's played less than half the games he's been here for.

Of course, he'd go and play 50 games straight at City...

I know it was only Leverkusen and a friendly, but that was a fabulous performance by liverpool today. Really fast, one or two touch football. 70% odd possession in the first half. Shelvey had a great game.

Sterling scored a great goal, but lost the ball several times throughout the game. Adam and Carragher should not play for the first team again.

Really pleased for carroll, he played well when he came on, and did a great dummy for his goal.

Rodgers must really want Ramirez, thats at least the fifth time he has signed him this summer.

Its disappointing that it looks like Pacheco will be off without ever really making an impression with the first team.
