yes Sean, done that myself.

PS who negged me for recounting my experiences of PS+?

if it was the MS dropped the ball comments, well for me they have.

for 8 years I have been the biggest proponent of xbox, but they make it so hard to actually buy and enjoy DL games now I dont think I can back them for xbox720, at least not initially.

Not really, which is why I buy albums on iTunes literally every week but buy TV series on iTunes approximately never.

If TV goes DRMfree on iTunes I'm going to have a lot less money.

Renting semi-indefinetly if fine, if it's cheap enough, Steam sales certainly are. Full 360 games certainly are not, especially when you add the £5 the hard drive space will cost you on that format.

Hmmm, my PS3 is fritzed (which I'm given to understand is the console's normal state) but this is still tempting, assuming I bother to repair/replace it down the line. Once you've signed up for a plus account can you claim each month's games without a PS3? I'm looking on the psn site and don't see any way to actually buy downloadable games on there :-/ so I'm guessing not.

ok, so I've got two years of PS+ now

HOWEVER...

why's it taken 50 mins to install 6% of RDR so far? is it because I'm re-doing the 15GB infamous 2 download that failed?

It doesn't really like installing when it's still downloading, in my experience. Just put auto update on for the early hours and turn off your PS3, it'll look after all your remaining downloads then install them for you.

I took the plunge and instantly remembered why i hardly touch my PS3, let alone the PS3 store. It takes FOREVER to do anything, just flashing buttons whilst it loads and if im extra lucky nothing, almost like its frozen before it lets me add to cart or download. Took me 20 minutes to add the free games, now to wait many weeks whilst it downloads compared to the 360 which is lighning fast. Ultimately its worth it but gah, what a terribly slow system.

I subscribed to PS+ just before Xmas last year & it practically paid for itself with the special offer games it gave me over that time. The fact that they only remain "yours" for as long as you're a subscriber doesn't bother me as I play & enjoy the games, then move on & I still have the memories. If I ever "lose" Infamous 2 or whatever I will still always remember playing & enjoying it.

Yeah I don't understand people moaning that once their PS+ sub runs out that they can't play the older free games again. I very rarely, if ever, go back to a game once I've completed it. I keep buying psone games and psp games for my Vita, and haven't played any of them yet. And any game that I'm likely to put a significant amount of hours into will most likely be a day one purchase anyway. Do people really play stuff like infamous, and then decide a year later that they want to go back and play it again? MP games not withstanding.

It's just a shift in consuming that can take a bit of getting used to. Once PSN+ has matured you should get way more selection for the small price of entry. As it stands £2.50 a month is great value. Netflix is the model of the future, pay a reasonable amount for content. You're always free to go out and buy that stuff yourself, but when a months subscription costs less than a single game or DVD in a bargain bucket then it just seems a unbeatable deal. It's also a much better service than piracy, which addresses what Steve Jobs said, you don't stamp out piracy by legislation, you stamp it out by making what you offer a better service than getting the stuff illegally.
