Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I very, very nearly walked out of Attack of the Clones. I think it was at the "Death Sticks" bit. I turned to my gf and said "This is shit, shall we just go?", but she persuaded me to stay.

I should have gone, in hindsight.

Of all of the Prequels AotC is certainly the worst. Bad dialogue, far too much CGI (that has dated) and the unbelievable forced romance between Anakin and Padme. The film is just about saved by Dooku and the arena bit at the end.

It really isn't. That whole section is just a mess. Literally the only good thing about AotC is the ridiculously forced Yoda sentence:

"Around the survivors, a perimeter create"

I don't disagree that the entire film was a mess but I actually wished we could have seen more of the battle of Geonosis. I actually enjoyed the arena battle and seeing a large group of Jedi in battle, especially in the cinema, but that whole section was far too short.

Yeah, for all its faults, I actually enjoyed the clone combat stuff, although I've got a soft spot for them after reading the various EU novels.

Man, I wish Bristol still had a Disney store, the one in Birmingham is full of ep7 merchandise. They had a lovely Captain Phasma mug complete with a nice shiny chrome finish (that would probably wear off after a few uses). So, what did I end up getting

That's right, an overly expensive bag (£5) to carry some of the clothes the missus bought with her birthday dosh. Still, the bag has a nice lenticular frontage with a nice montage of Rey, Finn, Chewie, BB8 the Falcon and some X-Wings on the reverse side.

The original theatrical version of the original trilogy are being re-released according to John Landis

I can't wait to find out how much of a premium Disney charge for them.

Price matters not. Judge me by my wallet, do you? Hmmm? And well you should not - for buy these however much they bastard cost, I will.

Even though I (and presumably most older fans) don't like the Special Editions, some of the small FX fixes would be worthwhile keeping. Let's say, they stripped out all the added CGI and left things like the matte line removals from the Hoth battle, I'd be OK with that. Hell, you could keep the Wampa costume in too. But if we do eventually get just the original theatrical versions, I'll be in line to order.

Oof, what?

From memory the Empire special edition is definitely the best one, with a few generally good cosmetic changes and no stupid additions, EXCEPT the pointless replacement of Vader's pissed-off "prepare my shuttle" with a much longer and clumsier line spelling out how he's going to get to where he's going next.

And Luke going from a resigned dignified drop to screaming like a bitch when he lets go of the gantry. Although that may have been removed in one of the subsequent re-releases. I lose track.

Oh God, just when I forgot some of the bullshit that was added...

Just give us the Theatrical Cut, warts and all, with nothing done to it other than a retouched and restored picture and sound based on the original prints.

If you release it, they will come. Collectively.

I rewatched the despecialised A New Hope last week for the first time in a while, and despite seeing it dozen upon dozens of times I was still utterly captivated by it, 70s special effects and all. There was never any need whatsoever to feel embarrassed by those films, or to feel they needed fixing in any way.
