I’m genuinely surprised it’s coming to PS4 and Xbox One. It seems like the sort of expansion where it’d be fair to make it next-gen only.

I have a feeling the game has been slowly sinking after it became an insane grind fest. I know I stopped playing it. Abandoning their main base would be quite suicidal at this point.

Guess I’ll be buying this again.

I'm considering it again on the Xbox. My existing PS4 save has a load of time sunk into it (but I don't have PS+ now) and I never got onto any of the Thargoid stuff as I'd stepped away prior to it launching. Figured a new game wouldn't actually be that far back in the grand scheme of things.

Anyone see any news about this hopping over the generation line on console? Series X version with migrated saves would definitely tempt me to start up again.

Nothing talked about beyond what I posted.  I'd be very surprised if saves didn't carry forward though.

As if by magic... Elite Dangerous: Deluxe Edition for £11.99 in the Xbox digital sale (and just at the point that I have £10 Xbox credit awaiting some use).

Think it may be time to double dip on both console platforms :)

What do you mean by “last minute”? Being able to land and dock ships was the first thing they confirmed when they announced fleet carriers last year.

The original design could not carry any ships until you bought an expansion for it. Adding to the up front cost and ongoing expense.

Ah, you mean their dumb business model where every system on the Carrier runs on cash and if you don’t keep putting credits in the meter it stops working altogether.

PC players.  What control scheme do you use?

I've played this on xbox one for a while and finally got it on PC.   Tried mouse and keyboard and....well....controlling with a mouse just feels insane.  Just me needing to get used it?

you really want a HOTAS. Max immersion! Well, along with VR anyway. The Thrustmaster T-flight was the reasonably cheap option last I saw, otherwise there's a X-52 for more fancy, and it goes up from there.

Or an xbox pad.

HOTAS is ideal but if you don't have room an Xbox pad is far better than fiddling with a mouse.

I'll echo what others have said about the T-Flight. Cost-effective and brilliant. Handy having a mouse or pad to hand though for navigating the map, as I never really enjoyed using a flight stick for that.

I bought a T-Flight for this game - when I actually had the time for it - and Tie Fighter. Works well and isn’t expensive compared to some of the other hotas sticks. It’s reasonably compact as it can join into one piece or split apart into separate stick and throttle boxes.

it'll be good for Star Wars Squadrons in a couple of months or so too.

I find the default "Control pad with yaw" preset is nearly perfect. I bind "Flight Miscellaneous > Toggle Frame Shift Drift" to the left stick click, and with that I'm good for most stuff.

The T-Flight is amazing. I actually upgraded to an X-55 Rhino in a fit of insanity, but it was total overkill and actually felt worse to use by my tastes.

I did a t16000 for a while but then ended up back with a joypad.  Never went full hotas though, so was using the keyboard for throttle. That probably robbed using the big stick of some of its effect.

I think the PVP hardcore just use mouse and keys with mouse x-axis set to yaw.

Never let yourself be guided by what the PVP hardcore do. Their goal is winning, not immersion.
