Right I want a head tracker thing.Do I pony up the cash for trackir or is some free thing as good?

I've ordered the ...uh. Edtracker, that's it. £30 thing that a few people on the elite forums are making and selling, sounds more use for less cash than trackIR.

That was pretty poor... but maybe I just don't understand marketing. Maybe if you had lived in a hole and never heard of Elite it would be fine, but it should have been rammed with fan service instead of the most basic things it covered.

The fucking massive ship jumping in was cool, but it being sent packing by a single eagle was pretty lol

Poor old occulus rift got a kicking though from super enthusiastic chap. "Its not very high res. But it'll be better in about three or four YEARS! "

There were three guys taking on the capital ship, but they are really good players so I doubt its that easy. Targeting systems like that & communicating tactics likely helps a great deal. Fairly certain they'd practiced that though. Most people would be ripped to shreds by the lasers in seconds. I guess getting in really close helps to avoid the turrets

Especially as they were selling tickets and pushing the event to people who have already been playing the beta.

That woman (Kate Russell) that has authored one of the books was lovely. Full of enthusiasm and came across as a real fan. Completely made me want to read some fan fiction, either one of these new stories or the original novella. It was the novella for the original game that completely set the tone for me, and helped my imagination fill in the blanks between the wireframe graphics

I totally recommend Out of the Darkness by T James - I kickstarted it not expecting too much and was very pleased with it was so much better than I had anticipated.

I'm definitely going to work my way through the rest of the books.

Made 25,000 or so credits on simple go-to missions, exploring a little when I decided to sell the system data I had scanned. Some of them were selling for >2k each but when I sold the last one, my credits suddenly went to zero.

Checked I couldn't buy fuel (I couldn't) left the station, still read zero.

Relogged, all back now.

Phew.

Me too, even "aimless" roaming is great, popping in new space stations (some very dodgy pirate flagged ones too) is always useful - blag some cheap system data, sell yours, grab a mission going the same way as yourself.

Check the outfitting too as it pays to upgrade the power systems, cargo bays and stuff so you can save some weight / power/ etc.

Looking at mining now, as I have discovered quite a few new asteroid fields..

The revalation on exploration came when i realised you could scan stuff in supercruise, and that the further you take the data the more you get.

Made 6k off one system, and im sure that's low.

But whats really twisting my melon is the 3d, the fact that if u focus on something in the fore ground the background unfocuses just like RL. How does that work!?!!!

Yeah sorry using the oculus!

Not sure range does make a difference to map data now.

So turns out I need 1.5 million for an asp explorer :(

Need to make cash faster , up to 26k from exploring but its not quick enough.

Never mind sounds like a wipe is a definite so I might stop playing again :(

I think I am going to make a rather strange decision. I'm not going to play Gamma at all and will now wait until a couple of days after the official release.

Dipped my toe into 3.9 and was very pleased to see the improvements, but given that a wipe might be on the cards I'm going to hold off. A wee break will also means that it will feel more like a new game when I finally get to play it properly. I'm not bothered about getting a head start (or failing behind) because there will always be others that will be playing way more than the 3-5 hours a week that I can manage.

Plus if I wait until Xmas then I can play it with my new funky soundbar that I'm getting from the missus.
