As you traverse the game you're constantly being matched in P2P sessions (islands) with a maximum of 32 players per session. For example when you leap out of supercruise at a station the game will find a suitable island with other players to match you up with, if it can't find one you'll start a new island for others to join.

the new starting locations (including the kickstarter rewards) along with the unrestricted galaxy seem to have done a job of thinning all the current players out. I;m now about 150 light years away form my brother, who is now slowly travelling towards imperial space to start his career. I've wound up in a nicely quiet corner of mostly federal space, a cluster of systems called Pil 22xxx. found a ncie system with a viable internal trade route so I can haul goods and make money without the cost of hyperspace. played for most of the afternoon and didn;t see another human player. took down a few AI pilots who tried it on, though.

Yeah, I was looking forward to an hour or two with it tonight too.

I checked the Elite forums just to make sure it wasn't my side, and eurgh I forgot how petty and whiny such places inevitably are. A few good points buried deep in a load of bollocks.

Wah, I'm back in but the mission I was on (simple in-system cargo haul) isn't in my transactions but the cargo is in my bay. Can't even jettison it, can't sell the cargo rack, it's stuck. Bah.

And I did think I went for the kickstarter but I haven't been harassed so maybe I never went through with it. I did do a normal preorder a month or two back just for fun.

Ah man they've broken Rift support, when did that happen?I get a weird bug where its like the right eye view doesn't have any ambient lighting, causes a really weird feeling. Googling confirms I'm not the only one! :( So much for my 5 nights of space adventures!!

In case it helps anybody else, logging back in but playing solo made my mission reappear in Transactions and let me deliver the cargo. Phew! This latest version seems to have added a bunch more local missions, like easy 2000-3000 credit small cargo runs to get you started.


Can other players hear the massive Inception Horn that goes off when you do a distance scan? I kinda wanna go around harassing people by firing that off nearby, it's hilarious as a cockpit sound.
