Nintendo Wii U

That's a shame. Still, presumably if played off-screen the gamepad will allow some touch select of game-world objects, i.e. tap a block to mine it etc. No idea whether that would be a boon to playing or not tbh.

I'm not sure that presumption follows. It sounds like it is a really lazy port, which is a massive shame.

The whole Minecraft phenomenon has complete passed me by, so I'm interested in finally seeing what the fuss is about with the Wii U version. What is it about the game that makes it so popular: the survival mode or the free-form, build lots of stuff mode? Or are the two not separate? I don't know much about the game at all, really.

My advice is to not read anything more about the game, no guides or anythjng, and go straight into survival mode and post your experience here.

:-D

Yep, read more into it and sounds like no touch-screen functionality at all at launch. Added to the fact it will be (at $30) about 1.5x the cost of the PS4/Xbone versions at launch, I think I'll pass, for now.

It isn't just the base game though is how they justify the base price being $30 instead of $20. You get force bundled some of the DLC to justify it. So $1.666 per DLC pack of value, I assume the standalone DLC packs will cost more than that to buy.

I'm at work so I haven't had a proper look, but it looks like one of them features moving conveyer belts and the other one has platforms that can be moved by shooting into a fan, like the single player levels have.

I Googled; thanks for the heads-up. Looks interesting - they're adding more movement to these newer levels, what with the revolving platforms in the museum, and the water level changes in the resort.

I hadn't used mine for ages and it was slow to respond at first but was okay after a min or two. Plug it into the Wii U and let it get some juice for a bit and then mash all the buttons to make it come on.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried it, but no good I'm afraid. Will try and find the right screwdriver to open it up with and see if it helps.

Does anyone know if you can play Minecraft two player multiplayer with one on the pad, one on the TV (like Lego Marvel, etc)? I can't find this info anywhere and it's a deal breaker for me! I can only see 'up to 4 player split-screen' detailed.

So, I've since found out that you can't do this, only local multi-player is split-screen. What a lazy port. :(

So it's got no local multi-player with one person viewing the TV and the other using the Gamepad, it doesn't support Wiimotes and Nunchuks, doesn't support the Wii Classic Controller, no Gamepad inventory screen...all for a price more expensive than PC, Xbox, PS3, PS4, PS Vita and Xbox One.

Yeah it looks a lazy port. Still bought it for the kids because the wiiu is always plugged in and the 360 isn't (lazy git).

Controls take a while to get used to but it's still vanilla minecraft. Pc is still the way to play the definitive version with the potential mods and shaders out there. The wiiu version could have been so so good. Touchscreen inventory with crafting, using it as a physical map, two players with each having a screen :(

Morning Forum-ites!

A Wii U related question: I've bought the following games:

Mario Kart 8

Nintendo Land

Wii Party U

Smash Bros

Scribblenauts Unlimited

FIFA 13

I've 2 x wii remotes but no nunchuks - do I need some for any of the above games?

You need Nunchuks for some games in Nintendo Land. Multiplayer Zelda and Metroid, IIRC?

At this time of year that game is not cheap, you won't find it for less than £30 anywhere.

I was in Game the other day having a browse and noticed they had both Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World both up at £48!

Guess Nintendo don't discount games as much as others... Still surprised to see them at this price though... Although they are both great games. :)
