Do you buy Limited Editions and how do you live with yourself?

The last one I got was probably the Dark Souls LE, but only because I was picking up random stuff during the Game Group fire sale and it was the only copy I could find.

There must be someone here who bought the Catherine pizza box, surely :P

I used to have a thing for Collector's Edition and bought shit loads of them - Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, Fable II etc.

I stopped after I realized how much money I was spending on useless crap.

Although I did buy the Halo Reach LE and it was worth every penny.

The journal that came with it is a thing of beauty

I have bought:

SFIV special edition with terrible Kinder figurines.

Street Fighter x Tekken special edition with a moneybox I still haven't bothered putting together.

Bioshock 2 special edition with the vinyl record and so on bought for something silly like a fiver. This is actually pretty good but I've yet to play the game :(

If I can afford it at the time I buy the collectors edition, I've got loads Bioshock, Resi 6, MW3, Blops 2, Forza's etc.

I'm not even sure why because 90% of the time I literally look at the packaging, take the game box out and close the lid and that lid then stays closes for all eternity. I think somewhere there's 1% of my brain that says keep these in mint condition and they'll be worth something someday. Some people like to spend lots on their car, some like to spend £100's on clothes, I like to have a room full of useless crap, each to there own I say,

I know it's not for everyone but my Games room at home looks pretty cool so I'm happy with my purchases :)

I've got a few. Perhaps the most significantly embarrassing one is the giant box (with statue) for The Old Republic that I've still not got around to playing yet, despite investing £50. Although the statue is awesome. Slightly lower is Bioshock 2, complete with LP, that I've not opened either. But that was only £13.

Beyond that, I really liked the Halo Reach LE box - the middle level one, without the statue. There was excellent tat in there. Forza 4 was a complete waste of money for the extra stuff, I regret that most of all of them I think.

EDIT: Bioshock 2 was really popular, clearly.

Oh God. I still have my Ryu somewhere but oh God. Bizarrely Capcom would go on to give far better tat away as preorder bonuses for Super, I still mourn my Dhalsim shirt. I have the Bioshock 2 one as well but that's great and it was about £15 so I'm not ashamed of the memory of purchasing it, those are my only two.

Steelbooks are the ones I don't get the popularity of, they don't close properly and look awful on your shelf like a shameful Platinum rerelease or something.

I've done this on occasion. I have the Bioshock one with the Big Daddy figurine, and that looks rather cool on my shelf next to some Futurama figures, a Masterworks Skywarp Transformer, and a couple of Resident Evil 4 figurines.

On the other hand, the Fallout: New Vegas Extra Tat edition was dull -- a deck of cards, the usual art book, and a couple of poker chips from the in-game casinos. I wish I hadn't bothered with that one.

I've got a couple of the versions with art books or exclusive DLC; like the Gears 2 one that had the golden Lancer, and Forza 3 with a book of driving techniques, and the Dark Souls LE. But I don't recall choosing to pay more for any of those. I think they were more pre-order bonuses than anything else.

Edit -- I go mad for steelbook cases though. I have no idea why, I just really like them. Utterly irrational. My Gears 2 is steelbook, so is my Bioshock, and a few other games like Galactic Civilisations II.

Yeah, but the New Vegas one is actually quite rare and almost keeps its value, unlike most of them. The Bioshock one is worth a few quid too (I have both as well as loads of others). I like getting a silly statue and the soundtrack best, artbooks arent really my thing.

I love these threads! And I love me some limited editions. The trick is to buy the good ones - they exist - and buy them when they are on sale.

The Max Payne 3 one is legendary. That is the worst figurine I have ever seen. You can get stuff that's a 100000 times better for next to nothing. I wonder what went wrong at Rockstar and who approved it and whatever abysmal manufacturer they got to make it. If I ever see it cheap I'll buy it.

And I'm thinking, it's not like there's no company's out there who do figures and statues. I can think of loads who would have done a better job. Poor chaps who bought it for full price.

I'm guilty of this.

Some of them are better than others. The Bluray documentary in the MGS4 set is really interesting and the encyclopaedia in the Revelations box is a really good book. I'd only buy these if they're for franchises I already really like (MGS, Halo, AC, ME). I did a bit of soul searching this week though and replaced my £99 Zavvi preorder for Revengeance with a £35 one from Amazon.

What did you do to it?

Also, what size are you? I got one of them and I'll literally never wear it after one day in it the day after release. It's an L or XL.

Caught it on a door and ripped it. Good of you to offer sir but I don't really need another, it was a pretty hideous shirt and I felt like a twat the odd time I answered the door forgetting I had it on but it did offer a bit more use than the usual limited/preorder/day one tat at least.

Whilst it was good of me to offer...

I probably wouldn't have done was it not for the fact it's a pretty hideous shirt and I felt like a twat sitting in a room on my own with it on, let alone Other People seeing me in it.

(So if you change your mind...)

OK, so I bought this. But in my defence, it didn't cost much more than the standard version, and I quite like the t-shirt that came with it. Hell, I'm wearing it right now! It's comically oversized (it's a size L and I'm tiny), but by now I'm used to having to wear clothes that are too big for me.

The poster of Catherine can fuck right off though.
