Do you buy Limited Editions and how do you live with yourself?

I preordered COD:MW2 Prestige Edition from HMV when it arrived. I just put it to one side, then gave it away to my godson for his birthday instead,

I thought that a teenager would appreciate the night vision goggles more than a man in his early 40's...

I realised the other week that I have a lot of these. I have them hiding everywhere, in the attic, under the stairs, in my room, on the front room book case. Seriously, I must have about 4 fallout ones and 5 or 6 halo ones alone. Not all of them the figure ones of course but all of them proper jobbies, not just steel cases.

I'm guilty of purchasing way too many LEs to list (I've only ended up kidding myself when I thought "hey!, that would be a good investment. I can turn around and sell them for a huge profit!" as quoted by the dumbass voice of no reason inside my head). thankfully, (and recently), I've come to grips (as stated here by many forum members) that most of the stuff bundled in is utter shite and not worth the extra cash

thankfully, I've sold off or am currently selling off the following:

halo 3 legendary cat helmet edition (x2) -  and I never even owned a cat to abuse it with this pint sized helmet. recently sold both, and got my original investment back

god of war 3: pandora's box edition (x4) -    don't ask why. thankfully, these are all being sold off as well at the original paid price

valkyrie profile 2 LE (jp) (x3) -   I'll probably be sitting on these until the end of time

Oh "found" Blazblue Calamity Trigger Limited Edition (US Import) at the back of my sideboard earlier today, now bearing in mind my very limited skill in beat em ups, I really should have watched the bonus Blu-Ray disc which gives basic tutorials, expert advice, strategies, but no. The disc is still sealed and I simply got my ass handed to me many many times online instead... ^_^

Anything with proper artbooks and soundtrack CDs. Problem is that too often they're cut-down versions of both, although occasionally you get stuff like the Tekken 6 limited edition that had a lovely, proper-sized artbook.

I've said it before, but for the price you pay for ltd editions, you might as well buy the artbook and soundtrack separately. A good making of documentary that actually shows some of the working behind a game is always welcome too, as long as it's not a massive circle-jerk. Halo 3: Cat Helmet edition had a couple of director's commentaries for the original and 2 which are quite insightful:

...but not worth the premium, obviously - especially when it turns up on Youtube.

HOW have I never seen this before?

RPS must have hasd this article ready to go waiting for the embargo to be lifted.

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/01/15/vile-deep-silver-flog-dead-island-with-appalling-statue/

Oh come on. After the reaction to the tawdry idiocy we saw throughout 2012, you’d imagine publishers would stop and think for half a second before launching into another vile misogynistic campaign. But oh no, Deep Silver aren’t swayed. Today they have announced the abysmal “Zombie Bait Edition” of Dead Island: Riptide, a boxed version of the game that comes with a statuette. A statuette of a woman’s bikinied torso, with her head, arms and legs crudely severed. It’s below, but be warned, it’s really disgusting. It’s hard to find the words.

Okay, no it’s not. This is beyond disgusting. It’s as if someone were attempting to demonstrate the most misogynist idea that could possibly be conceived, in an attempt to satirise the ghastly trend. A text book example of the most extreme ends of misogynist fantasy, a woman reduced to nothing but her tits, her wounds hideously depicted in gore, jutting bones, and of course barely a mark covering her globular breasts.

Incredibly, this is promoted as being,

“Dead Island’s grotesque take on an iconic Roman marble torso sculpture.”

and that it would,

“make a striking conversation piece on any discerning zombie gamer’s mantel.”

While there are a very small group who like to refuse to acknowledge their own unpleasant prejudices by chastising RPS for its coverage of gaming’s representation of women, I feel certain that even they might find cause to baulk at this.

Deep Silver – this can’t happen. You cannot be this vile, this outrageously stupid. For God’s sake, don’t do this.

I can't imagine anyone ever walking into a shop and buying one. It'll presumably be postal order only, like animal pornography or the BNP newsletter.

Maybe you'll have to go into a special backroom with beaded curtains over the door to buy it at Game.
