House of Cards (US) (Netflix)

Thank god, it actually has dialogue people might actually say. The characters are SUPPOSED to be hateful. Tbf it is very melodramatic. I was full of praise for s2 before listening to the slashfilmcast special where they tore it a new asshole. Angry at first I soon realised they were right.

Also see The Newsroom. He has to be the clunkiest writer working today.

Aye. Like I'm not going to deny that the portrayal of politics in House of Cards is shallow (although I enjoy that the interchangeable hot-button issues in the show are appropriately topical, government shutdowns and so on) but to then extol the virtues of The West Wing as some in-depth high-brow portrayal of politics... that's just laughable.

I did not understand exactly how / why the cards all fell into place the way they did at the end of S2. Not sure if I was tired and not paying attention or if each character acted the way they did in order for the writers to get to the correct ending, rather than because it was a sensible thing for them to do. Maybe I'll have to watch the last episode again, unless someone wants to explain it for the hard of thinking.

Yeah I think it's the worst product placement ever in anything ever. It made me think that all the stuff about him liking videogames was just put in so he could plug the Vita. terrible.

oh for those who missed this seamless piece of advertising:

Second series is even better than the first. I just spent the last few weeks chomping through 2 or 3 a session. Gutted that it's such a wait till S3.

I dread to think what he'll do next

But I bet it involves war. His own Vietnam? Surely S3 is the downfall, where he takes the whole house down with him.
