Rllmuk Game Awards 2012 - Categories

Hey.

I wanted us to make a bit more of these this year and also make sure that voting is open for a good few weeks so everyone can stop by and cast theirs.

I'll leave the official thread to someone else but i do think we should start voting on the 1st of January and have it open for 2 weeks a least, that's just my 2p.

Anyway, what I wanted to talk about was what categories we should have.

Game of the Year

Most Wanted Game of 2012

Hall of Shame

Best Technical Achievement

Best Online Experience

Best 3DS Game

Best NDS Game

Best Mobile Game (iOS/Android)

Best PC Game

Best PS3 Game

Best PSP Game

Best Xbox 360 Game

Best Wii Game

Best Download-only Game (Wii/DSiWare, XBLA, PSN, Indie)

These were last years. Would anyone agree that's a bit sparse?

I was thinking we could add:

Best Performance

Best Protagonist

Best GENRE TYPE (ie best FPS best RPG)

Where Art Though? - games we expected to see this year or something like that

Buggiest Piece of Shit of the Year

Best Music

A Pleasant Surprise - surprise of the year

Best Story (yeah yeah the medium still has problems but lets examine who told a story the best this year or told the most interesting story)

Most Disappointing

I think we should make the yearly awards a bit more useful in evaluating Rlllmuks gamers changing feelings on games.

I'm in favour of some more interesting categories. I've been thinking about ditching format-based categories for a while but I do like how we can celebrate the better games on less-popular formats, like handhelds and mobiles. It is in need of a shake-up, were there even any Wii games released in 2012? DS Games?

I still think we should have the format ones. In fact everything I suggested was only in addition to those categories, not replacing any of them.

We could have more predictive ones too like

Not Long For This World - studios, genres, or hardware that are going to suffer next year

I Predict A Riot - most overhyped and ultimately disappointing game of next year

The Dark Horse - potentially great relatively unknown quantity type games to keep on eye on during the next year (ie not GTA5)

I'd prefer best writing to best story, as it's more encompassing. Borderlands 2 for example has a simple story but some excellent and very witty writing.

Needs a best LOL moment as well. In the face of an onslaught of deadly serious killing games, there's a lot to be said for some well-timed, well-delivered humour in a game.

Yes, I know - I just ignored it because its a tedious suggestion that isn't going to happen under any circumstances.

Personally I think it's a good idea if we use these to drill down in finer detail on this and see how Rllmuk is feeling about games in a more comprehensive way. Plus it's more fun.

I think we should have a 'best {platform} exclusive game' for every platform and a 'best multiplatform game'.

Otherwise it'll just be stuff like 'Max Payne 3' entered as best Xbox 360, PS3 and PC game for example.

I think we should do it like Neogaf and have one vote of say, 10 games and then people can split the categories out of the results.

Best game with a bow in it, Best game starring Mario and anything else equally stupid could be answered.

Separate votes for Publisher and Developer too

Suggested this last year but I think I was a little late; we should probably have a 'Best Remake/Reissue'. I reckon I've bought about eight HD collections or re-releases this year and the vary wildly in quality. Also gets us out of the potentially odd situation of having a game made in the 90s as our third best game of 2012 or something.
