Far Cry 3, Fifa 13 and BLOPS top the UK charts for 2012. Dishonoured (at 14) is the highest ranking title to not be preceded by other iterations and the only game in the top 20. I'm a bit tired of everything wanting to be a franchise nowadays. EDIT: No idea why the numbers haven't survived.

there arent even colours here to show who is "really winning" cmon what would Boyatsea say (or what would he get an unpaid intern to say)

I do note however that the Vita is almost outselling the Nintendo handheld.. BOOYAH!!!!

Sadly it is the DS rather than the 3DS

Famitsu reported that the 3DS broke the 10 million units sold in Japan barrier last week. Last week alone, it sold over 300k units over there.

With Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter and Pokemon on the way it will certainly outsell the LTD of the Wii this year and perhaps that of the GBA as well.

And while it performs best in Japan it's also outselling the 360 in Europe and the PS3 in America and is the best selling system in the world.

The Wii U not so much.

Our view of gaming is spectacularly influenced by what's going in the states... forgetting about the rest of the world, where they're not as bothered about shooting muscle mans in the face over and over and over again, and their own gaming media doesn't have some kind of interest in pushing the 360 over all other platforms (see IGN)

The bizarre part is that even if ps3 does surpass Xbox who gives a shit and why?

We are at the fag end of this gen, the wii "won" but for the first gen in ages all three consoles did very well. All sold decent numbers leading to good software sales and good software support. Compared to previous gens this is a pleasant change, no one bombed and none of them went out of the console making business.

So does it really matter to anyone?

Even the corporations themselves won't care that much how many they sold , they will care about how much profit they made and they will care if they had a decent sized userbase to move forward to next gen with (although previous gens teach you that last gen performance can be useful but is no guarantee)

So yeah this sort of thing can be a bit of fun and banter at start of a gen when you plonk down your cash in hope that the console you buy will not bomb and will get good software support (amiright fellow WiiU owners!!!) but after that its a bit, erm, pointless.

As for neogaf they are an utter joke, they have pretensions of being full of industry insight and the leading forum etc etc and yet the forum is stuffed full of playground console wars and shit gifs. The uncharted threads and the current wiiu threads are a particular embarrassment

You're right Clipper... the banter can be fun though. :)

All through the gen - the PS3 and 360 have actually been pretty much neck-a-neck. If you went purely on the US, then I think the 360 is quite a bit ahead of the PS3 - but these are global companies. Microsoft will still be spitting teeth that they simply cannot make any inroads into the far east. Whereas Sony are doing well with their console globably.

Going into this next gen... I'd say overall that Sony are probably disappointed with their results and the Vita has been a failure. I would imagine that Sony want profit from day one with their device.

Nintendo probably feel they got lucky with the Wii but are really concerned about lack of interest from 'non-nintendo' core gamers. I suspect the WiiU will be another GameCube - it'll sell enough, make Nintendo money and be host to some great games .

MS as a company are in a spin. Their xbox has done well in their home market - but their losing market share all over the place. They are going all in on the eco-system of devices with the xbox becoming a standardised Win8 PC for under the telly. Full of Metro and ads and entertainment and all sorts of stuff.... to ensure this, they're going to go big with the specs for this device.

Interesting times though... love gaming me.

In the us it is miles ahead... In Japan it is miles behind in uk it's ahead but in Europe as a whole it is behind.

It kinda evens out.

Wii pisses on both due to fat housewives and partying grannies :)

Just saw your analysis scott... Vita isn't a failure yet... It is failing currently however.

Wiiu sadly may well do a GameCube which is a bit shit but at least it'll have all the Ninty games as ever.

Sony didn't replicate ps2 due to Wii stealing part of their market. I think ps4 will be ok same as MSnext

As for MS, your anti-dudebro attitude is showing a bit. They sold a ton this time XBLA has been a revelation and it has forced Sony to up the ante in the online arena. Next gen who knows but I think too many over emphasise the "media centre" stuff. I don't use any of it and I haven't noticed the Xbox as a worse place to be.

MineCraft seems to have become something of a stealth killer app for Microsoft in the homeland, recently passed 5 Million units sold, and over 453,000 copies sold on Christmas day alone, which might explain why it overtook Halo 4 in the Live charts. All the comments I have read about it would suggest it's a big viral kid phenomenon and apparently growing.
