The Rllmuk Metal Thread Part 2

Transient Curse

Recommended Posts

For anyone who isn't aware, Tool had a strict no-photography policy on the current tour. Lots of emails beforehand saying don't bring any cameras, and hundreds of signs up all around the venue saying "no photos or recording including mobile phones".

They weren't confiscating mobiles at the gates, or anything, but (at least at the O2 Arena show I was at last night) people did actually honour it for the most part - many people (including myself) took the odd quick snap, but I didn't see anyone glued to their screen all night.

I don't know if the ushers were actively stopping people who did try to flout it too brazenly.

Man, RIP Trevor Strnad. Seemed like the nicest dude in metal. I remember seeing them with Cephalic Carnage and the promoter saying they were so chill, with no pretensions as the headliners at all - not even a drum riser so the support acts got full use of the stage. I am still a massive fan of Miasma, I love that album.

Having never been a real fan beyond a passing enjoyment of Unhallowed, I've been going through their discography and I am really enjoying Miasma. It shows the band starting to properly branch out from their debut which was basically Slaughter of the Soul with blastbeats (and no, someone else came up with that description and then said it with the straight face to the band themselves. Idiot).

I had seen The Black Dahlia Murder live and they were very good. I couldn't call myself a huge fan but by all accounts he was a really good dude.

This one hits particularly hard because the guy was my age and that's obviously far too early to die.

Reminds me to appreciate how lucky I am.

RIP 🤘🏻

Just this last week I was made aware by a Rick Beato video of 'The Sails of Charon' by Scorpions, a band until now I'd only really associated with Winds of Change. Two things:

  • Uli John Roth is amazing, and his performance and stage demeanour in the first minute of the video is mesmerising
  • the groove on this is something else

Didn't recognise the song title and thought the band had reformed for a moment. :(

Btw, the rest of the album is also excellent so if you liked that song then you should definitely check the rest of The Concealers.

Meshuggah tonight. I'd say I'm excited but I'm exhausted and just want to stay in and play video games. Still, Zeal & Ardor supporting so it'll be worth it.

You lucky git. At least for Meshuggah no one really moshes. You just stand and nod your head to whatever groove works best for you.

Zeal & Ardor pulled at the last minute because of fucking Covid :seanr:

However that crushing disappointment was somewhat negated by Meshuggah being tight as shit and having the best sound mix I've heard of anyone pretty much ever. They were excellent and yeah, finding the rhythm to nod and chinstroke to was a fun game :D

yeah I've been going through their albums the last couple of days. That song jumped out at me as particularly wicked and then I noticed it was their #1 song on spotify so it looks like the cosmos agrees.

I'm not sure, Angst is great but I'm not sure about the rest of it. The last album was much better

I prefer this one to their last album.

They're definitely in a pretty deep rut regardless, that stage a lot of bands get into where they've not put out anything really compelling for 15 years or more.

We must just have different tastes then, thought Deutschland was a workout banger as was Auslander. I'll give this one a few more goes

For me, the last Rammstein album I REALLY liked was Reise, Reise. After that, there were still some amazing songs but each album had more and more filler.

Regarding the autotune on this album, I don't mind it on the song "Lügen" because it makes SENSE to be in there. But otherwise, I can do without it, yeah.

I remember that. All charges were dropped quickly in that case as the prosecution decided not to proceed. I don’t think there are other facts about the allegations available beyond that.

They dropped the case because they were concerned for the well-being of the victim. I've heard it suggested that she was being threatened by their fans.

They were never cleared.
