  • 2 weeks later...

Today Is The Day have just cancelled their Temples Festival appearance (and whole Euro tour for family reasons).

I'm gutted - been listening to them for nearly 20 years, and never seen them.

Obviously family is the most important thing, but I'm tremendously disappointed.

I saw that the other day, I couldn't be bothered to check the original but the replaced snare is pretty out of time in places, which is pretty unfair on Lars, given his reputation!

I came to post this:

You can't help but laugh at that release date.

the true metal

everything else is poser bullshit ;P . I'm a quarter joking.

Manowar are amazing. I'm not even joking. I spent the day of my 37th birthday listening to (almost) their entire back catalogue in chronological order. I even listened to Achilles, The Agony & The Ecstasy. All of it.

Have some more true metal, you sexy bastards.

I also love Babymetal. Have some of that, complete with ridiculous guitars from the Dragonforce knobs, too.

It's probably all right as long as it has had a decent setup. Budget guitars generally aren't cheap and nasty like they used to be.

Personally I'd avoid 'vintage style' (ie Strat-style) vibratos as cheap ones don't tend to hold their tuning all that well. If you don't abuse the vibrato arm (or leave it off entirely) you'll probably be OK though.

In fact the whole guitar is a bit of an odd mishmash of things - it's basically Strat-shaped, has a Strat vibrato and 22 frets, but then it has a pointy reverse headstock and two humbuckers.

Would you get to play it first or are you looking to go mail-order? How much is it? New or used?

Ultimately the most important thing is how much you personally like it. If you're not in love with it, chances are you won't play it.

What are you upgrading from (or would it be a first guitar? sorry, I've not read back through the thread) and what kind of music are you intending to play on it? (edit: just noticed that this is the metal thread and not the guitar thread! so I guess you're wanting to play metal)

They supported Monuments the other week.

I quite like them, but I was in The Crobar drinking beer until the Monuments set as the venue smelt of sick so didn't actually see them play :)

The missus then harassed the Tesseract guitarist who was with two of the lads from No Consequence. They seemed nice enough.

Not a huge fan of the Parkway Drive track. It's OK like, but a but thin.

I loved Killing With A Smile when it came out... ten years ago  I'm not sure the folks in my University halls enjoyed it quite as much as me.

And apparently there is a new Heart of a Coward album due. If it sounds like that Hollow track I'll be listening to that a lot. Severance is my "get yourself pumped up to go to work" album of choice. It's like an amazing NYC hardcore album, with some extra strings and sped up. With less DMS.

Yup, it's the perfect 'get yourself pumped up' album or otherwise listen to when you're in an angry mood.

Love it. :)

Periphery and Veil of Maya are coming to Europe btw! The perfect tour for me! Definitely going to see them (even if the venue is located at the other side of the country).

I saw a Periphery headline the other month. I took the missus. We were about 10 years older than most of the crowd and we're under 30 :D

They're very good though. Like or loathe Spencer, the guy can hit the notes. And obviously the rest of them are great too. Even if you just wanted to go for gear porn, it's worth the ticket price. Misha had about five different guitars...
