2015 was an amazing year for music. Even the disappointing albums are still going to get a regular spin as they're not without merit. I did however expected a lot more from those bands. Take Tesseract's release for example, not a bad record by any means but as a fan it feels like B-side material from past albums. I'll still listen to it every now and then but I'd rank it below their previous output. Holy War felt like Hate 2.0 and while that's not a bad thing per se, it doesn't have a patch on Absolute Hope Absolute Hell by Fit For An Autopsy. I could've easily made a top 20 and still have at least 5 entries for the other categories but you have to draw the line somewhere. 2015 is going to be a tough year to beat but considering some of my favourite bands and artists have material coming I've got my hopes up!

1. Veil of Maya - 'Matriarch'
2. Between the Buried and Me - 'COMA Machine'
3. Tesseract - 'Polaris'
4. Sikth - 'Opacities' EP
5. Fit for An Autopsy - 'Absolute Hope Absolute Hell'
6. Born of Osiris - 'Soul Sphere'
7. Periphery - 'Juggernaut: Alpha/Omega'
8. Vision of Disorder - 'Razed to the Ground'
9. Steven Wilson - 'Hand. Cannot. Erase'
10. Will Haven - 'Open the Mind to Discomfort' EP

Notable mentions: Black Dahlia Murder 'Abysmal', IWRESLTEDABEARONCE 'Hail Mary', Heart of a Coward 'Deliverance'... no such thing as too much good music. Probably more I've missed off.

There were two EPs on my list, but I personally felt they were the respective artists' strongest work to date, so I had to have them in.

That reminds me. I yarr'd it then totally forgot to import it into iTunes. I'll probably buy it because I'm a fan and Anthrax usually manage a few good songs per album. Jesus. Isn't this what Slayer apologists sound like? Fuck.

On a different note, I just stumbled on a black metal band from Norway called Sulphur. A new album is due out this year, but in the meantime, have a listen to their 2009 album "Thorns in Existence". It's black, but also death and occasionally thrash. Definitely more a mix of genres and a fucking excellent one at that: https://sulphurnorway.bandcamp.com/
