Just caught the arse end of a Phones-4-U advert and they're giving the Nokia N-gage away free. Now obviously it's gonna be on some contract or other, but does know any more details? And if they're giving it away free it really can't be doing that well, can it.

Actually, the most ubiquitous and successful phones tend to be the free ones... look at the Nokia 3310/3330.

It's also because the 3330 is robust, user friendly, doesn't break very easily etc... plus their contracts were relatively more cheap at the time. The Ngage is free at the moment because the contract is £250 a year.. but the Ngage is also a clumbsy piece of poo..

Nokia 30 series is successful because it's free. They can afford to give them away because they are cheap.

There is no way Nokia could be happy with having a series 60 phone being devalued to the point where it can be given away like a bottom-end phone. Especially not one advertised to the extent this one has.

The original plan was to sell at £230 with no contract deals/tied-in SIMs available (Orange refused to support the phone until Nokia changed their mind) and limited stock to phone shops because this was first and foremost a GBA-killing games console. Nokia soon changed their mind after it became apparent that game stores weren't receiving the sort of pre-orders Nokia had expected (by one hell of a margin).

has the n-gage got any better?

No

any good games yet?

Yes. Sadly, most of them are available for £10 on the GBA.

Also: You'd probably want to rephrase that as "any more games due for release ever?"

To which the answer would be "Look at the full 2004 release schedule":

wasnt mame about?

Yeah, but it's not n-gage specific. It'll work on any Symbian-based phone. Also, it doesn't run very much.
