The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

There's a real change in tone when you get to Novigrad I feel. The city stuff is more political/crime related and less monster/combat related. This is another brilliant bit of world building in relation to the kinds of problems people would have in a city vs. the country side in this sort of world. Also makes the game fresh although I have been going at it for 40 hours now. I will be playing this for a very long time.

I have just got to Navigrad (well I'm on the way to Triss' house) after 80 hours. I'm only level 11 too, the game is phenomenal and I just can't imagine it's gonna end in the next 6 months playing an couple hours a night. Which is great :D

I've got so much to do, so many Gwent matches, so many questions marks to unlock. It doesn't feel overwhelming either, I just look forward to playing every evening.

I haven't been this hooked on a game for ages.

Long may it continue :)

I think I'm nearing the end game now, but I have so many quests yet to do. Even so, I'm buying the shit out of the DLC. This is, I think, one of the greatest games ever made. It's gone straight into my top 20 at any rate and deserves to be in the Rllmuk top 100 list.

Borderless windowed is your friend. My card is worse than yours but I think I'm putting up with about 45fps most of the time. Most settings in the game can be put to ultra except the grass distance - it's an absolute killer at ultra apparently so I put that to high. Shadows are also medium and ambient occlusion is set to SSAO (middle setting). Hairworks also completely off obviously. I can give you a full list of my settings if you like, but I suspect I've just picked pretty shots rather than anything special going on :)

Oh yeah also I turn off Chromatic aberration and especially vignette as it looks shite. Never turn off light shafts as they are what make the game so pretty most of the time, along with high/ultra textures (2Gb is enough for high)

@Benny. Is that the:

Archgriffin fight near Crow's perch? If so, I just did that fight last night and using an Ekimmara decoction made it really simple.

I also have the exact same chest armour as you. Nice shots.

Well, I've got to the stage of the game where it's warned me to make a manual save. Does this mean I can't go back and finish my contracts or side quests now?

To answer your spoiler: it is indeed!

As Witcher 3 was awarded 10th best game of 2015 by GB I started thinking about what an impossible task reviewing this game was in the traditional sense. I am 42 hours in and have only now started to understand and play about with witcher gear from the different schools. I have found: puzzles ala Zelda, interesting bloodborne like battles with witchers that went crazy, and basically a ton of shit!. This does not seem like it was placed for me to find but rather that I discovered it when no one else will (although everyone here probably has).

Then, walking in Novigrad I realised the amount of shit that's being said by NPCs passing by, which made me think about Skyrim (Arrow to the knee?). I started eavesdropping thinking a quest would pop up from the amount of bollocks the NPCs were talking, only to realise it was all just random chatter created probably just so the city seems believable. Seriously, how the fuck did they do it? This is a true new classic which will be discussed for years. The only thing it has to fear it itself in that, given the scope of the game, it is impossible for traditional gaming media to cover it.

One comment was that they found the combat repetitive and boring. Holy shit do I disagree with that. The only explanation I can find to that is that they are playing on lower difficulties.

Yeah I think they meant they found the combat to be clunky.. but in my comparison to Witcher 2's combat, I'd say it is a vast improvement and the combat didn't bother me at all. But reviewers probably played on an easier difficulty to pace through the game quicker.

I've been playing on one difficulty level higher than the lowest but have still found a lot of fights a challenge. And I don't really mind because otherwise I'd have probably taken absolutely forever to complete it, so I don't really see having the choice to do that as a negative, in a game absolutely bursting with choice anyway.

What's with the low res, looks like an amiga point n click game. I reinstalled this to my SSD today since I have no big giant game I'm playing right now since finishing fallout. I'm going to stick on the hardest difficulty and go for really light cat build with loads of dodging and traps.

Assune he means trap magic

Yeah, I remember setting traps with monster specific lures in Witcher 2, wonder if this is a late game thing in this game or not present. I really liked the idea of being super prepared for a fight.

I guess I'm nearing the end of the game now. Am Level 29 and have just done:

The fight at Kaer Morhen which was suitably epic plus defeated Imlerith with Ciri on that Mountain thingy.

Going to try and upgrade my Witcher armour so I'm fully pimped up for the final confrontation. There's also the small matter of what seems like hundreds of undiscovered location ? to visit. Christ this game is huge, in a good way. I actually want to visit the undiscovered areas and feel motivated to do so. I couldn't say that about a lot of other games.

Loving Triss's new outfit as well ;)

I seem to remember there being loads left after that point.

That doesn't surprise me as it feels like what they paint as the final questline is actually spread out over several parts. That suits me as it gives me a chance to go and sweep up some contracts and other stuff then come back to it later.
