The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Funnily enough I’m at the same section. Really enjoying it now after the Novigrad/Dandelion section which I found a bit of a slog truth be told. That reads harsher than I mean it but I didn’t find it especially compelling.

Am I preparing for the finale at this point or still quite a while away? I’m 80+ hours deep but only level 23 and the quest log seems to suggest there’s plenty there if I want it, not even counting the DLC. This game has been the run of my one-RPG-at-a-time rule! Not to mention the additions to my already colossal To-Read pile of the back of it.

I've always maintained that Novigrad is the low-point of the game. The actual town is very well realised, but nothing you do there is particularly exciting or intriguing with two very noteworthy exceptions.

Spoiler

The plot to kill Radovid.

The serial killer that tries to kill Priscilla.

Edit: Make that two!

I did that serial killer mission and discovered that it was some insane monk out something, but much later on a body was found with the same causes of death, implying that I'd either got the wrong guy or there was someone else involved... and that was it, nothing else about it was ever mentioned again and no further quest began

You dun goofed!

Spoiler

It wasn't the monk (Coroner really) who had a sick torture fetish, it was the other coroner. No, not the old dude who you first talk to, the younger looking one who apparently is older than the old dude. You didn't actually believe his tale about formaldehyde keeping him young, did you? ;)

Coming to next-gen, apparently-

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to the next generation!

We’re working on the next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!

Developed to take advantage of the most powerful gaming hardware, the next-gen edition of the game will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing, HDR and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.

The next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release as a standalone purchase, as well as a free update for everyone who already owns the game.

Just seen that pop up on Steam. Any excuse to play it again is great really, and good news that it'll be free.

Oooh! I wonder when that will hit? I was about to grab the GOTY edition at a 70% discount on Steam just for something to play on the 3080 when it arrives, too.

I've only tried it for a few hours before and couldn't get into it. Will try harder this time.

Currently half way through Blood and Wine on Switch.  This is a bloody excellent expansion - it's like half the game again!  I thought the other expansion was fine, and would have been happy if I'd bought it as DLC when it came out, but this second one is really top drawer.

I already owned it on PC (sans DLC), and it was a bit of a shock at first going down to much lower res on Switch (it was like the screen was smeared with vaseline compared to the PC version), but I'm used to it now, and it looks amazing.  Totally happy with my purchase, and glad it's done well on Switch.

I hope your save files are compatible with the next gen version seeing as it’s a free upgrade.

and will it be for the regular edition too, or just the GOTY edition :sherlock:

He also says it's coming 2021.

Hopefully saves transfer as I was about 40hrs into my replay on PS4 when I left it.

Is there any good guide with how to resolve mod conflicts? I've been wanting to play this for a while but can't seem to get mods to play nicely (using the mod manager thing - not the Nexus one).

I’ve modded this many times. It’s been a while now but what issues are you having?

I knew there was a reason I bought it four years ago and never actually played it.

I got it free with a video card purchase back in 2015 and have still yet to play it, but I really want to now and have been trying on and off for about 2 months to get the mods to work

@Talk Show Host I'm going to start from a fresh install over the weekend, but previously I've had conflicts that I can't resolve and so the game won't load. I think it's possibly due to mods that need .ini files tinkering with. Perhaps if I have a go and get stuck I can PM you?

PM me away :). Usually the problem is going overboard with mods or not having one properly installed. I had posted here a lot of pages back the mods which I had used for my third run until the end, but I’m sure some of them may be even obsolete now.

We’ll set you up to fully enjoy one of the top 3 games ever made, no worries. :D

@Talk Show Host What would you say the top five essential mods were? I've been modding Skyrim hard since 2014 but I've yet to try modding this.

Top mods for a full playthrough. They change the game in order to (significantly) improve the experience, immersion and controls/camera. Plus a few discreet quality of life changes and little aesthetic tinkering for a more lore friendly game. :)

1) The Witcher 3 HD Rework Project

2) HD Monsters Rework

3) Friendly HUD

4) All Quest Objectives on Map

5) No Dirty Lens Effect

6) Immersive Cam (which also includes Immersive Motion, Alternate Horse Controls, Monster AI fixes)

7) No More Rolling Down Stairs

8) Lore Friendly Ciri

9) The Butcher of Blaviken (Slightly more lore friendly Geralt)

10) Witchers' Eyes Lore Friendly

11) Yennefer Eyes Lore Friendly

Frankly, you really don't need more than that, but there are a couple of more graphics fixes, lighting mods and tweaks you can do. Use Ultra settings if you can (and there are a couple ini tweaks you can do to improve things a lot without danger - tell me if you need them). If not, drop shadows and grass visibility to high. I can post another set if you want to try some more but -it goes without saying I guess- that the more you add, the more the risk to break something rises. W3 generally was not developed with modding in mind. :(

Stay away from LOD mods, improved shadows, lights, torches, overhauls, changes in the battle system or items, etc. . Most of them either break the game limits to work or improve an area only to create an issue in another. The most complex mod (and the best imo) is Friendly HUD, so always check if there are Friendly HUD special versions of other mods which are compatible with it.

Eyes ... what? No, leave Yennefer's Eyes alone! The best Witcher 3 mod is this one for the Blood & Wine DLC:

The Witcher 3 Toussaint Enhanced mod enhances Toussaint’s lighting by removing the horrible yellow lights, cyan skies, dark distance fog and much more.

-_-

Being serious though, the best ones for me are the HD Rework project, and the No Dirty lense mod. The latter makes a real difference - I genuinely can't understand why any dev would ever think that's good idea.

Nah, this is good for now, thanks.. I just spent eight weeks ironing out, what I hope to be my final, Skyrim load order. I just want to spend a couple of hours on this, tops.

I've still never played Skyrim either, due to feeling the need to mod it and then hearing about all the time it takes (there was an old page years ago I was going to follow that said it would take a couple of days). Perhaps I should never buy moddable games.
