I removed the rubber foot way before removing the eject button. If it was truly expansion of that rubber foot, that right there would have stopped the issue. So, eventually, I removed the eject button entirely. Imagine a U on its side, with metal strips running on the inside. Holding your finger on the outside somehow made the connection between the two, closing the circuit. Remember, it's not a button in the traditional sense, there's no travel.

As such, I genuinely have no idea how it activated. I can't seem to find an image of it to help explain the above.

I know of one owner who had similar to you even after removing the 'button' so he ripped out this metal bit and has had no issues since

I think people have taped up the contacts on the board as a less brutal alternative, while it is touch there is also potential for the metal contacting the board causing eject hence some odd issues with movement still causing it to eject

Does anyone know if PS Now is a month by month commitment after the trial, or are you tied in for a set duration? I'm tempted to dive in to play Ico and Shadow of the Colossus before Last Guardian but I think it'll take me more than the 7 day trial to get through them both with my current available playing time (and don't want to be tied into a year).

After over a year of owning the console & pissing about with an extension lead trailing across the floor, I've only just realised that I can plug my headphones straight into the controller instead.

I have PS+. My son who has his account on the same PS4 as mine (he doesn't have PS+) wants to play online. Is it like Xbox Gold where he can play online because i share Gold, or does he have to have his own subscription?

He did try and play Titanfall 2 and it said he wasn't old enough, can i just change his age and away we go (could try this, just haven't got around to it yet)

Thanks.

PS+ is registered to the console so that aspect of it will be fine, don't know about the age thing but I can't see why it wouldn't work.

I think you lose sound quality.

My PS4 1TB stopped switching on last night - blue light of death or whatever. Managed to get it into safe mode, but rebuilding the database made no difference. I've restored to factory settings and it seems to be working fine now. Is it likely that it's sorted now, or is there a probable impending hardware failure? Oh and it's so much fun reinstalling everything, including the hundreds of gigabytes of patches that need downloading.

Pretty sure the age thing is a problem and seemingly very difficult to get changed.

You can backup your entire profile including installs to a usb hdd you know, it's not just for moving systems.

Fair point, wasn't able to get that far into the system to be able to do that when it stopped working though. I accept that maybe I should be keeping regular backups, but sigh.

The most annoying this was having to put the disk for every game back in to trigger the updates and to let me download the saves off my account - it wouldn't let me download the saves for any games it couldn't detect on my system or something.

I wasnt making a point mate I was passing on the tip, it'd back up those large installs handily.

Appreciate it.

My PS4 has gone again now, can't get it to start other than in safe mode, trying to do anything else makes it check the hard drive, reboot, and never start up with a flashing blue light.

It's about 30 days out of warranty, I'll have to see how Amazon are about it. That sale of goods act clause about proving it's an inherent fault after 6 months seems nearly impossible to use.

Most people probably remember but I had the same, died out of warranty..about 2 years old. Tesco gave me 170 quid towards a new one, amazon might do better. Make no mistake though its fucked, I knew as soon as you said it. Mine did all that and eventually stopped turning on.

Amazon gave me a stupid amount back for a thumbstick going on my launch day console in October (more than the cost of a new pad).

I think you'll be alright.

You weren't kidding, that was some of the best customer service I've ever had.

My launch model is in rest mode and downloading patches, which should be using minimal power. You can actually hear the fan, though. Does striping it down and cleaning it help with air flow and cooling, or is this going to need thermal paste replacement?

PS4 is in open air, not in a TV cabinet.

The airplane taking off during a game launch got me.

Is it seriously that bad for everyone?

Mine was exactly like that which is why i sent it back for a refund. After 15 minutes of Titanfall 2 it sounded like a vacuum cleaner.

My advice would be to not bother with either, unless the noise is really irritating you and you're fine with the possibility of going through all of the hassle and still having it as loud as it is now.
