This is a great time to pick up a cheap PS4, absolutely dozens of amazing games available for under £20 or even less.

I have no doubt the PS5 will be a fantastic console but I always wait for the first revision before buying. By then there will be plenty of games to show of the system and hopefully any initial bugs will be sorted.

Until then I'll be playing through the PS4's amazing library.

I admire your will power :hat: however I am weak and will be getting the PS5 on release.

Spot on I’ve got a massive pile of PS4 shame, yakuza 0, Kiwami, HZD, Spider-Man, death stranding stacks more all of which look amazing and play brilliantly and at a shiny ps5 would just play these better and make me want to buy more games so I’m staying out for the time being.

Eurogamer are reporting that the new PS4 firmware, released today, lets you change the 2FA settings to use an authenticator app as opposed to just a crappy text message. Probably worth people looking into!

2FA on PS3 is really odd. You try to log in, it fails, and then they text you a code which you then put in as your account password to log in.

I suspect it's probably not worth their time to fix at this point, though.

It's an app-specific password. Par for the course really. You can generate those in advance via your account page online.

It's the only place I've ever seen it used in that way. It's quite odd. I prefer just using an authenticator app. Or better yet, an authenticator app that just lets you tap to approve.

Older systems that aren't capable of authenticator integration or aren't updated any more use this method. Apple, Google, et al use it (for instance, when adding Apple Calendar access to Windows 10). You're rather lucky if you've never encountered it before. :)

Maybe old news, but the "Game Library" page is now open at https://library.playstation.com/ (obviously, make sure you're signed in.) Apparently this will show PS4 and PS5 games you own, and highlight things such as Instant Game Collection items. It doesn't seem to show PSOne Classics or digital downloads for PSP and Vita, but I think that was known...

Although you're supposed to be able to set up 2FA with an authenticator app via the web site, I can confirm that the feature doesn't exist there. If you deactivate 2FA, the only option when setting it back up is still to use your phone number.

So this in your linked support article is a lie?

Web browser

  • Go to Account Management on a connected device.
  • Next to 2-step Verification, select Edit > Activate > Continue.
  • Select how you would like to receive the verification code: Authenticator App or Text Message:
  1. Authenticator app: open an authenticator app on your mobile device and scan the QR code. If the QR code fails, copy and paste the alphanumeric code. You will then see a verification code in the app.
  2. Text message: enter a mobile number or select an existing one – you will be sent a verification code.
  • Enter the verification code.
  • Record your Backup Codes

PS4

  • Go to  Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Security > 2-Step Verification.

Perhaps they haven't done the backend upgrade yet.

I think all these means is the 15 stage process to record other people in your party chat has been removed and now it just records it all without every player in the party having to have changed the default settings already.

Obv being Sony it’s totally broken parties...

It's like the annoyingly persistent idea that the Facebook app is secretly recording everything you say and using it to target adverts at you, because I was talking about crisps to my partner and that exact second I saw a post about crisps on Facebook. Why would Sony want to record your chat, and would it be worth the enormous cost involved in storing and analysing thousands of hours of people having banal conversations and swearing?

Admittedly, the big tech companies make it very easy to believe this sort of thing.
