PlayStation 4 Console Thread

As someone planning on getting a PS4 as a ‘family present’ this Xmas, has anyone spotted anything remotely like a deal? Base units of the Slim are still £249 at Argos and selling out everywhere.

I know asking a question like this on a forum like this might cause some pearl clutching, but:

- we don’t have loads of cash and thus cannot justify a PS5

- we’d need it as a Blu-ray player too, so wouldn’t want to spring for the digital version of the new Xbox even if we could afford that

- we don’t *need* a new console, we’re all perfectly happy with our Switch, I just want the cheapest way to get Spider-Man, the latest Minecraft and that Star Wars Squadrons into the house for the Xmas period.

I know I’ve left it way too late, but I was just reflecting recently. It’s been a shit year, but the kids have done brilliantly, and deserve something they weren’t expecting (and haven’t asked for) this Xmas, but that I can afford. Cheers.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with buying a PS4 or Xbox One at this point, there's 7 years of awesome to be played.  Probably cheap.

Can't help with your actual question other than to suggest if you're not super concerned about buying new bear in mind CEX will charge you £190 for a 500gb slim and that's going to come down as a lot more people trade them in.  They give a 2 year warranty which is more than you get on new ones.

Shopto has consistently done great Black Friday deals on PS4s so keep an eye open this week? On the year the PS4 slim launched you could get the console bundle with Infinite Warfare for like £190.

Thanks, though they’re sold out of consoles completely at the moment too, it’s bonkers.

Lockdown/COVID has really bumped up the price of consoles.

There are currently 3 PS4 Pro consoles going in the Trading forum for between £150 and £180, if you don't mind buying second hand.

Things you may or may not care about when buying used are age of the console and possibly the model number, which I'm sure the sellers won't mind letting you know. The latest model is CUH-7200 and is supposedly a bit quieter than the older models.

Wow, PS4s are sold out everywhere. Like, everywhere. Argos, Game, Very, Amazon, Shopto, thegamecollection…

Will see if restocks happens after lockdown, but it may be a passing fancy. Blimey!

I guess even if they do intend to keep making them for a bit, if there was any way to use that capacity for PS5s the last 6 months they certainly would have.

Sorry to be a lazy bast but I've never done this before and from searching, I can't figure it out.

Long story short, I sold my PS4 to my mate since I got a PS5.

I have 200-odd digital games on my account.

How can I let him play them without screwing anything up for myself or him, please?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Apologies for being lazy and/or stupid.

Make THAT PS4 your primary console.   Then he can play your games without you needing to be logged onto it.

This shouldn't affect your PS5 in any way as it's treated a s a separate console (so IT can also be your primary console) according to this link which was the 4th link on a  google search of the terms PS4 PS5 game share

https://www.thegamer.com/you-can-play-ps5-and-ps4-on-the-same-psn-account-at-the-same-time/

@rafaqat

Very much appreciate the help, and the kind, gentle shade of "4th link" which is well deserved. :D

Lucky bastard just got 242 free PS4 games.

Edit: Thanks and apologies to the mod for the move.

Lucky bast indeed!   He's set for a year or two!!!

Happy 7th Birthday PS4!

In the long held tradition, here is a nice video of easily clippable game footage against some nice music. Definitely a melancholic feel this time, and with the new consoles now out, officially a retro console. However I think I'll be gaming on it for at least another 2-3 years be that directly on my launch PS4 or via PS5 - so expect another video next year.

Thanks! I'll keep on making them for as long as it's enjoyable, and I have new games to play on the PS4.

Between you, you got all the games covered - not many this time but just the way it worked out. Sometimes I have played games that just don't work very well visually or thematically (like Spelunky 2 and Fall Guys)

Do new or prospective PS5 owners plan to keep their PS4s, or move them on?

I can see they're selling at up to £200 (for a base model!) with one controller and perhaps a couple of games, that's almost Series S money. I have no need of a second Playstation, I could put it in the bedroom but it would likely be used as often as my second Switch dock (once a month, maybe). The fact it would still be my 'home' PS4 and all my digital content would still be playable offline makes me want to find a reason to keep it, but that's really a silly reason - the loading time of some of the larger games will become even more painful once I'm used to a PS5.

That’s wild.

However I’ve never solid a PlayStation in 20 years, and don’t plan to start now. It’ll go away in the store cupboard like Captain America, awaiting my hour of need.

If I'm doing the maths in my head right, that means that I could come out of this having been paid £10 a year to have a PS4.

Tell me about it. Sold my Switch this year for a little more than I paid for it. It was three years old.

Anyone else get a random email from Sony about an PSN subscription.   My son has a couple of years left I thought.  On the console it said he had PSN till next year. On the shitty new redesigned website it said he had no subscription.  This morning I get an email form Sony thanking me for buying another year of PSN at 50 quid.   Checked website again, still no subscription. Nothing under transactions either.   WTAF?

It's deffo from Sony. I've not clicked through on any links just to be on safe side.

That's exactly why I'll never put my credit card on these sites and just use e credit ones instead.

I sold mine to Music Magpie, they gave me an extra 10% so got £110. I know I could have got more on Ebay but I cba with dealing with issues, especially since its a launch model. I'd rather a shop give someone a guarantee with it than some buyer on Ebay come knocking if it goes faulty.

It did take nearly two weeks to get the money though due to delays in the postage but it is free. This is the first console I've offloaded as I see no reason to keep the PS4, especially since I plan to get a Series X next year and I have an Xbox One too. With backwards compatibility I just can't see the point.

Yeah I got one but that's because my next 12 months that I had stacked kicked in.

Do Music Magpie give a shit about scratches on the shiny half of the PS4? Mine is a bit scuffed from sliding controllers onto it for the last 7 years.

Also, the fan does get a bit loud - Are they bothered about that?

And do they care about original box, cables etc? Mine works a treat but I'd rather sell to them and not have any hassle if it ever goes pear shaped further down the line.

Final Q - How did you get the extra 10%?

My shiny part was lightly marked. I gave the fans a good vac and cleaned it up with antibac wipes as mine would run very loud too.

Popped it in a random box I had, bubble wrapped and they pay postage, either Hermes or Royal Mail.

Google for the code, I think it changes often. Prices have dropped a tad since I did it, but it's still more than CEX and for peace of mind I would recommend.

If you've got any spare DualShocks (in addition to the one you have to send with the console), don't send them to Music Magpie as they only give £8, compared to CEX who'll give you £21 each for them.

I'll also happily buy a DS4 if anyone wants to sell theirs.
