My shiny part was lightly marked. I gave the fans a good vac and cleaned it up with antibac wipes as mine would run very loud too.

Popped it in a random box I had, bubble wrapped and they pay postage, either Hermes or Royal Mail.

Google for the code, I think it changes often. Prices have dropped a tad since I did it, but it's still more than CEX and for peace of mind I would recommend.

Just sent them mine for £95, it's worth it just to avoid eBay hassle further down the line.

Does anyone run a PS4 on a 1440p monitor? I'm in the market for a new screen for the office and planning on putting the old PS4 up there for the occasional game/remote play when the main TV is in use, but I don't know how the PS4 will play with a 27" 1440p panel. Will it just stretch a 1080p image to fit (I'm fine with that if so)?

If not I'll probably just go with a 24" 1080p screen but I'd prefer the bigger one for my work.

The kids are getting a PS4 Pro for Xmas, so I got it out and installed Miles Morales, Minecraft and Star Wars Squadrons, to avoid Xmas morning pain.

Jeez, after 3 years of Switch ownership you forget how painful updates are on PlayStation.  I also had Uncharted 4 (little treat for me), I put that in at midday, and it announced there was a 14gb update that would take over 4 hours. So I had to pack it up cos the kids would be home by then!

Because I’m a muppet, I changed my compromised PSN password without first checking my phone number was up to date. Now I can’t sign in because I can’t receive the verification code sent via mobile, and don’t have a copy of my account’s backup codes.

Just wondering if anyone has had recent success speaking with PlayStation’s customer service in terms of updating a phone number or disabling 2SV to retrieve an account? I missed the (laughable) 7pm closing time so couldn’t contact anyone tonight. I’ll phone them tomorrow but will

sleep better knowing I’m not likely to be permanently locked out of my account, my game library and all the other data attached to my PSN login.

If I were trying to socially engineer access to an account I had the email and password of, calling up saying I needed to disable 2FA is the first thing I'd do. So expect a bit of a struggle. You'll probably be sending off ID documents and all sorts.

Note down all your PS console serial numbers, they sometimes use one of those.

Yeah, figured it’s not going to be a simple reset, even if I can pass all the security questions, DOB, console serial number etc.

The old number being an overseas one and me now being on a UK number will almost certainly make things more suspicious from Sony’s point of view. Fun times.

Will report back.

Use the char bot, you can bypass 2fa easily apparently as one of our members knows to his cost :o

It will usually stretch a 1080p image to fit. Some fancier monitors will accept a 4K image and downscale this to 1440p, which will look better.

Indeed. Was incredibly easy to get the 2SV turned off. I logged into their live chat this morning as soon as it opened and listed my issue. I then only had to provide my online ID, and the first and last four digits of the bank card attached to the account. They turned off the 2SV with no further questions. I'd anticipated a more thorough examination and had a passport copy ready to upload, and my console serial number to hand.

Just logged in to the console and turned 2SV back on using the Authenticator app. Funnily enough only downloaded that a few weeks ago as the company I'm currently contracted to uses it for their VPN activation.

I'm pleased I got my dumb mistake fixed easily, but can see how easy it might be for supposed security checks to be bypassed.

I've just tried installing a game, and have been hit with error CE-30005-8 A quick google search isn't that helpful, it might be a dodgy disc, or the machine could be borked. Unfortunately this is the only disc I have and wasn't going to buy another, it looks clean, but then I've downloaded games of the store and they run fine, so I'm not sure what it is. Any advice for clearing this issue (both the disc and console are seond hand from here, so it's not as simple as getting a replacement from a shop)?

Probably only six people still use this feature, but has Remote Play support gone absolutely to shit for anyone else since last year’s update? It went from rock solid on a wired connection and tolerable on wireless, to disconnecting every 10 seconds on a wired connection or immediately after the stream starts on wireless. This is irrespective of receiving device - PC, iOS, Vita, even Vita in direct-connect mode.

I’ve been using it the last couple of days over a wired connection to my Mac and it’s been very stable. It’s always been really flaky over WiFi for me, Ethernet has been the only way to do it reliably. It’s a godsend when the kids are in the room where the PS4 is.

I have a beta invite to the next version of the OS if anyone wants it.

Quote

• In Messages, you can now turn notifications on or off for each of the groups you're in. On the group screen, open the options menu and select Turn Notifications Off.

Other update features
• On the game session details screen, you can now use the Request to Join button to ask the session leader to join their game session. The session leader can then send you an invite to join the game session.
• When playing a game you've hidden, other players will no longer see that you're currently playing that game.
• The Communities feature is no longer available.

Continuing my Remote Play saga, even with the PS4 and Vita set to direct connect (so it's not using my network at all), Remote Play still immediately fails. On every client (PC, Vita, iOS...), all of the handshaking etc. works fine, but the minute the video stream is supposed to start I get disconnected. I'll just pack it in and return to playing Hades on Switch when the TV's occupied.

Already mentioned this in the Guilty Gear Strive thread but for anyone who only has a casual interest in fighting games and fancies giving the most recent (until Strive releases in June) Guilty Gear a go for cheap then Guilty Gear Xrd Rev2 is currently £1.04 on PSN. It has probably the best tutorial in the genre plus it is absolutely gorgeous.

Question about playing the same game & save across two different consoles, on the same user account. Is that possible?

I’ve been playing 13 Sentinels on my PS5 which I’m utterly engrossed in, but I’m staying at my mum’s this weekend and I’m concerned about the possibility of losing all track of an already bamboozling plot if I take a multi-day break from playing it.

Obviously I cba lugging my PS5 over, but wondered if I might be able to resume my game and save on my old PS4 Slim, which is already at the maw’s since I donated it to my sister. I kept my user account on there so she could play my library, I’ve got PS+ which I believe allows me cloud saving, my copy of 13 Sentinels is a digital download from the PS Store, so I’d assume each of these things should combine to make it possible. Is it? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm normally an Xbox man but a friend has just loaned me his PS4 for an indefinite period, Woohoo!😀

I had a fat PS3 back in the day, before it's fans clogged and it died of heat exhaustion, and made a point of playing through as many PS exclusives as I could.

Standouts for me were Ico and Shadow of the Colossus so I've just ordered The Last Guardian for £11 so pretty psyched about that 😃

I've also nabbed Spiderman for £8 as, even though they can be VERY repetitive, I've played ALL the games released since wayback and feel like I've missed out this generation...

I'm thinking of God of War and Uncharted 3 next as I've played all previous installments over PS2 & 3 and they feel like unfinished business.

So, any other exclusives folks would recommend if youse aren't bored being asked that question?

ps. I was quite chuffed to see PSN remembered my old ID, after a password change, so it really feels like I'm picking up a few loose threads from ages ago to see if I can get them tied up!

Anyone can add me if they like PSN ID: dungavin

I can't believe I forgot about Bloodborne (huge SOULS fan) *drops everything and sprints to the nearest online shop in a panic* 😮

does anyone know if overheating can cause handshake problems? (on a ps4 pro)

it used to occasionally get a black screen on the tv, but the playstation was still running - think this is a hdmi handshake problem. but now after using the ps4 for maybe 30 to 60 mins it's constantly doing this, which is why i'm thinking it could be caused by overheating. but the ps4 is not shutting down. and there's probably no point trying to take it to bits and replace the thermal paste and stuff if overheating can't cause this problem anyway. changing tv output from 4k to 1080p seemed to delay the problem a bit.
