PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Recommended Posts

Absolutely don't bother. I returned mine and kept my slim. The pro was a buzzing noisy beast and that’s brand new. The buzzing difference from game to game but it was properly annoying. Back to the slim and the games still look amazing and that’s on a 40” 4K set!

I stayed away from the PS4 until 2017 but if the 5 is back compatible I’ll be on the pre order train. I’d had every console on release from the SNES until then but could not justify the 4 at the time. If I can carry on playing my current stuff I won’t be able to resist. Especially if my boys can have the PS4 and have access to my stuff

Anyone got any advice on stopping the PS4 (white, not Pro) from sounding like a Jet Engine?  I've hoovered the vents, and the console has space around it to breathe.

someone said a while ago that putting it on some feet to give a bit of clearance underneath helps.   The other thing you can do is open it up and re-apply thermal paste. I’ve not tried that. I’ve just decided I’ll have to live with the sound and pretend I own a private jet.  I Might try re-applying thermal paste once the ps5 comes out and they become less vital

to my gaming.  :)

Probably more important than the thermal paste is replacing the thermal pads for the memory chips - the stock pads are undersized and replacing them along with the paste seems to yield the best results.

I’m so fucked off with my PS4 getting screen blackouts and shite I’m considering trading it in for a One X. Happens on everything now whether HDR is on or off. Given up even using it for You Tube, Netflix and Prime.

Started using the official hdmi cable again and no problems so far. Really annoying as the other cables are hidden in the chimney breast and are all hdmi 2.0, so should work no problem, and do with all other consoles and what-nots.

Unfortunately, saying a cable meets the HDMI 2.0 standard and it doing so are very different things :(

So annoying! Can anyone recommend a high end 2m hdmi cable that definitely works with the Pro? Or do Sony do them?

Make sure it’s a premium certified cable, don’t need to spend much to get them but means they are tested properly unlike hdmi 2.0 spec cables...

Every time  I play it she ends up sitting on it, blends in to HZD quite well I think. Top stealthing.

I’ve run into an odd sound issue. I’ve started playing Minotaur Arcade Vol 1 but I have no game sound. The system sounds are fine. Every other game is fine. But Minotaur Arcade is silent.

I’ve tried redownloading, I’ve tried deleting the save game file, I’ve tried fiddling with the sound options, supersampling, and boost mode but no luck. Any ideas?

There is a setting on the PS4 to do with colour settings (RGB / YUV420/ something else) that I changed and it resolved the issues.  Failing that - new HDMI cable.

Got the new gold headset today as a replacement for the previous version.  Not as comfortable on the ears but much lighter and better sound quality.  Hearing things in music I've not heard before.

Just seen this new page turn up which shows you your stats for the PS4 during 2019, not sure how accurate the details are, but found it interesting to find out though. Some of my details showed:

Be interesting to see other people stats. Since getting my Switch in September, think I've hardly used my PS4 though.

I had Dark Souls 3 at third, Sekiro in second and Destiny 2 at the top.

I mean, From games are nice but I'm not one of those mental fans and I didn't expect two of them to make up the top three. Then again, they do take a while to play through!

I knew I don't get much PS4 gaming time anymore but I was surprised to see I haven't even made the 10 hour minimum requirement for this (ahead of the 10th Dec cut off).

I do know I've put more than 10 hours into Diablo 3 on my Switch in 2019 though.

its doesn't feel right.  Says my top 3 games played are

No Mans Sky (7 hours)

Metal Gear Solid 3 (3 hours)

Titanfall (2 hours)

I've played Horizon Zero Dawn and god of War in 2019 for a LOT longer.

I think it might be just picking up stats from the primary Ps4 only as I use that least in the house.

I can't access my 2019 review.

All I get is a message saying that it's only available in select countries.

I'm in the UK... Strange.

I’ve definitely played death stranding for longer than days gone .

11hours in VR .... I don’t think I’m getting my money’s worth . Probably be more if the sodding breakout supported HDR pass through .
