PlayStation 4 Console Thread

Had a great hour's worth of private co-op on Resogun with a mate earlier...leaderboards didn't seem to be updating quite correctly as my scores were registering but his weren't.

I topped 5M on Resogun single player - experienced earlier, anyone beaten that? More friends welcome :-)

Going into the local shopping centre here, you wouldn't know the PS4 was actually out. There are huge xbone banners and stands and whatnot while the PS4 has one solitary poster in both EB and JB HiFi. Got to try out the controller and it felt very comfortable. Thought I would try my luck at the counter and the pixie girl said I was in batch three and would get mine post Xmas.

Erm, I don't bloody think so! I told her the reason I had pre-ordered from them was because they had guaranteed pre-Xmas delivery. She called another girl over who said I was in the pre-Xmas group as I had ordered before the cut off point, but they had had no clue whatsoever, when they would be getting the next batch in (her face kind of said 'and you are fucker 9003 to ask!')

Games here are $80, except for at EB, where they are $99. So the wait continues.

This really is everything the successor to the Xbox 360 should have been. I've been a bit of an Xbox fanboy since the first one, and my PS2 and PS3 were just secondary consoles, used for a few exclusives and little else. But man, they've knocked it out of the park this time. Nice one Sony.

Er, guys. I don't like the pad. I love the new features, but it just does not feel all that comfortable in my hands. The ridge underneath the left trigger digs in to my middle finger. Yeah, I know I'm on my own with this one. But I much prefer the 360 pad.

NFS has been disappointing for me, something is off with the framerate. AC IV looks wondrous compared to the PS3 version though, and much nicer to play thanks to the solid 30fps (the Map still chugs though, I notice)

You're not on your own, I prefer the 360 pad too. It's a nice pad and feels quality but the sticks need to be moved to be more accessible for your thumbs, the left stick in particular.

Hey I think I saw a couple of you in some games of Bf earlier, I know I saw Kreiss because you ran me over! I think I need to understand how the friends/party thing works on PSN as I have no clue. It would be good if you could party up like on the 360 - is that possible?

God, this console is just the best fucking thing ever.

The box itself looks aces. It's quiet enough. I love the light strip.

The ds4 is THE BEST controller I've ever held. Ever. They fucking nailed it - new benchmark. Move on.

Everything OS side so far has been utterly seamless. Remote play worked a treat too.

Killzone is shiny on steroids. I really like the shooting, it's a challenge even on normal, especially if you don't shut down the alarms!

Just waiting for BF4 update (psn/my bb a little slow) and then I'll be up for some total noob shenanigans.

And Resogun is going to be my game of the year. If crack cocaine and lotto scratchcards had a little baby, it would be less addictive than this.

Nothing quite matches the pain of saving the first nine humans and watching the last one shatter into five bloody voxels as you blow up.

#teamfuckingsony

to be fair, I have had 13 pints of Grolsch, but this post has made me sooooo fucking excited to pick up my ps4 tomorrow from Tesco

If the complaint is just that the sticks need to be moved, that's more of a 'I'm used to this design' thing no? Actual positioning is fine for me, but then I QA tested on both 360 and PS3 for a lot of the earlier part of last gen and had no problem jumping between them as far as placement.

I think the actual sticks on the DS4 blow away those on the 360, and I didn't have a problem with them before. The click down is sharp, short and perfect, and they aren't as long as the One and I've pulled off some moved I swear I just couldn't have done, even on the 360 on Battlefield 4.

As for the running over, well, would be rude to have not to, right? ;)

Yea I have no clue on partying up... we need to work that out asap.

One problem I had though is playing Blurays. For a start it just says "Blu ray disc" when I enter one, rather than showing the name of the disc like the PS3 does. Is this right?

Also, does anyone have X-Men First Class on blu ray? (It's the UK triple play edition if that matters).

It loads up the 20th century fox logo, then gets part way through the X-Men intro/menu titles and craps out. Just sort of hangs there doing nothing and with a black screen.

I tried Toy Story 3 afterwards and that worked fine. It does seem slow to load up the disc though, has a black screen for longer than I'd expect.

I've only tried the extended version of The Hobbit just to test it out but it seemed to load and work faster than any of my other players and had no problems when I started fiddling about in the settings, changing menu options/scenes etc. I don't have X-Men to try but will give another few a go. I did have the same where it didn't show the name of the film, just "Bluray disc" though. Hopefully there'll be more updates to the player to come if there's problem discs but you'd think being Sony they'd have it all working properly from the start.

One thing I had to google is to get it to bitstream the HD audio rather than use PCM (despite having DTS set as the default audio output) is that you need to press the Options button on the controller to get at another menu while the disc is playing.

The pad is ridiculously good. I mean, I still had some slight trepidation going in after using the 360 pad for such a long time, but the curves under the grips and the second texture is just great.

Also incredibly impressed with the hardware and so glad it's quiet! I don't feel there is that much for my tastes yet, but Resogun will keep me going for quite some time.

Only the 2nd console I've bought on launch, but no regrets here what so ever.

Ok, before heading to bed, Lo decided she wanted to watch the Overtime of the Washington Capitals game, so switched the TV over. Then grabbed the Vita and continued from right where I left off in Contrast.

Beautiful.

I think the triggers have a touch to little play in them which may or may not be an issue. Not tried a racing game. Hope i won't have too (Rushy if you do get the CSR or Logitech G25/G25 wheels working, spread the code!) - gonna have to comment to Ian Bell or Andy Garton bout' that.

But what a night. Loved Resogun. Thats Defender Revolution. I can't help thinking Cave will look at that and think - yeah we can still beat that for sprites on our next game.

The Next EDF will be a total shitfuck.

Couldn't find the C4 streams of Driveclub but that looks good.

But anyway shiz...what an innocent looking monolith. And when you switch it off, its like its one of those dying robots. Like a Cylon or Dalek where their lights fade away after they've been lazor'd.

Its almost sad to switch it off.

I've not felt so excited about the future in a long while.
