PlayStation 4 Console Thread

So is everyone going to keep their PS4s in standby mode? How much power does that even use? Mine seems to have a constant orange light on the top of it which makes me think it's a bit more awake than I thought it would be.

Same. It pulses when downloading/installing in standby. That light alone isn't using hardly any power.

According to anandtech standby is 8.59W.

Exhausted! Been on the phone since 8 this morning to Very/Sony/Very. Console delivered. No Call of duty game, should have been a download code in box or somewhere but there isn't. Barcode on outer box mentions Ghosts. Now Very want me to return the console. Gutted.

My brother in law had his PS4 delivered by Asda yesterday, with whom he's had it preordered since the day they let you do it. It arrived yesterday and fortunately for him, my sister was out last night so he could have the TV to himself. Except the PS4 isn't working. It's just a blue, blinking light....

Asda have told him he is unlikely to get a replacement until after Christmas

So did I imagine it or did I see an option advertised on NFS pre-release that let one player play on the console and another on the Vita?

If so I can't bloody find it.

Oh and my next gen moment occurred earlier when I got a text from a mate asking how the PS4 was? So I hit the share button, text him a link to my Twitch channel and gave him 5 mins of Resogun goodness! ... Safe to say he was tad impressed!

Guys, I'm going to be moving over to a PS4 from a 360 and just wanted to clear some stuff up.

How is the UI compared to the 360 which I quite liked?

Can you record your game play on the PS4?

Is joining a multiplayer game or party as seamless as it was on the 360?

Thanks!

Same as me; Loved the 360 and played on this way more than the PS3. This time with less time on my hands and the continual rise of the multiplatform games so no intention of buying both machines in the short-term and decided on PS4 this time.

I'd personally say the UI is more basic and simplified than the 360. There's no adverts at the moment and everything is clean looking. It's got that Sony feel to it and for me it's clear they aren't a software company, because some things aren't as intuitive or poorly implemented - i.e. having to delete the recordings from the storage menu, no information about background installations, updates are a bit clunky and still reliant on trophy syncing (again!!??). Also certain features just aren't as good. I agree with Hean Dog, Trophies were always a copy cat achievements system that just don't work as well and I don't care for much.

That said it's super fast switching between game and home screen (I believe the same can be said about the XBO) and its all pleasant enough to use. Certainly nothing that puts me off the machine and will either get improved or you'll learn to live with. The unique features it has like the awesome Vita integration make up for it even if the XBO has the better interface.

I've only got KZ:SF and AC4 so far as GAME failed to deliver NFS:R on time. And due to needing 6 or so hours to log into PSN the first time yesterday I've not even played multiplayer yet so can't comment on that I'm afraid - although I'd imagine most are struggling with multiplayer games this weekend.

But overall it's an impressive launch (bar the fact PSN has gone down so quickly and had so many features taken offline for most of the launch so far) and I'm really looking forward to playing Destiny on this thing along with the games I've got.

On the whole I'm very happy with my purchase.

Some things like the UI need work, and yesterday was a disaster trying to update and then log in, but today PSN was much faster and the general speed of things over the PS3 is impressive.

Haven't really got anything bad to say about the pad. Killzone looks alright but from where I'm sitting on my PC master race throne it's not all that. Resogun looks beautiful. Flower makes me very nostalgic as it was one of the first PS3 games I bought.

If anyone's got an order in with Argos you might want to give them a ring to double check things: I was expecting a camera bundle today but Yodel messed up — surprise, surprise — and sent it to their Gatwick depot, which is the completely wrong direction. It's not going to be here until Tuesday at the earliest now.

Enjoying my PS4, controller is surprisingly nice and KZ and NFS are suitably functional launch games, not too amaze but shiny enough to be a noticeable step up (although I will say that NFS has gone slightly overboard with the particles, there's almost always some sort of stuff fliying about).

Resogun and Contrast are alright little freebies but just to be clear, that's all you get for PS+ this month on PS4, right?

I've added a few of you from the list, especially those with NFS and I'll try and add a load later on.

If anything, I'm slightly disappointed I didn't get the gamer pack with the cam etc as just by a sheer stroke of strange coincidence, I got a tax rebate from HMRC which has meant all my worries about being totally poor for December were unfounded. Although there was no way of me knowing I'd get the reabate, it does mean that I'm buying a proper surround sound AV receiver though :omg:

My god, so signed up to the two day bf4 psn trial, great, downloaded the freebies resogun and contrast, just got an email that I have been charged £12 for contrast!!!

What are the chances of me getting this all sorted out? I'm worried they are going to say I bought a us psn and as such was outside my terms and conditions or something.

Ok, just completed the first mission of Killzone via remote play. I think Vita's sticks + rear touchpad nonsense make the game a whole lot harder. Either that or I'm shit - never been into shooty-man games. Love the feature, and there's bugger-all lag or video artefacting. Just the obvious resolution downgrade that can't be escaped.

Also - I didnt by my brand new telly just to play my PS4 over my vita :-D Gonna head downstairs for 1080p and DAT PAD loveliness.

I've spent the morning playing Killzone, and it's not that bad at all.

Just got up to chapter five and it's been a lot of fun so far, bursting into a room, melee attacking and then following up with a knife throw is so cool.

I also loved the train mission, jumping from roof to roof and directing your OWL down into the carriages to cause chaos.

Not exactly mid blowing, but definitely not as shit as some people are making out. Some sequences are absolutely spectacular and the gunplay's very weighty. It has an excellent shotty too, and multiplayers a good laugh.
