PlayStation 4 Console Thread

After reading on here or NeoGAF that some people managed to redeem codes on their PS3, I told my brother to try that for his Battlefield and Need for Speed DLC. The only problem is that he can't seem to get them to download onto his PS4. The download queue on the SEN web site doesn't seem to actually do anything. Anyone else had this problem?

I noticed that in standby the fans are still spinning ever so slowly. You can hear the faint hum.

Are people generally leaving their PS4s on standby overnight or are you shutting down totally? They're designed to be left in standby I suppose.

It think it's the power supply you hear humming, not the fan.

I noticed that in standby mode the HDMI port gets activated every few minutes, this triggers my HDMI switch which in turn then powers on and switches to the PS4 port. A little annoying and this will add significantly to the overall power consumption in standby mode for me. I hope they can patch this out in a future update.

I'm guessing that only works if you then use the PS3-PS4 upgrade option?

Even if the queue isn't working you should be able to find the DLC on the Store via the PS4 itself and have it be flagged as purchased. This worked for my Aveline code for Black Flag.

The web browser on this seems absolutely woeful. Not that I'd ever really use it but I opened it out of curiosity last night and simply typing in a web address was lag city. It was even laggy just bringing up the keyboard in the first place. That can't be right, surely?

The girlfriend decided to catch up on X Factor last night, so I returned to the land of PC to play some Final Fantasy 7.

I was using the 360 pad, and it just felt so uncomfortable after using the DS4 all weekend.

I decided to give the DS4 a shot on the PC. Plugged it in, the drivers downloaded instantly, launched FF7 and everything was hunky dory!

Then 6 hours passed

Anyone with a BT Home Hub (v2 I think?) got remote play to work over the internet (and outside of the home network)? Was trying over the weekend, but it just wouldn't wake the PS4 from standby. Otherwise though, remote play is flipping brilliant.

Only works if the DLC is available to buy on the store. The Need for Speed DLC isn't.

It turns out that if you don't redeem the code on the PS4 and download it straight away then you can't install it without deleting and reinstalling your game:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/691087-playstation-4/67859447

At least this has worked for me, its very wonky but it works

Step 1) Delete the game you want to install DLC for from your HDD along with everything else including saves etc (backup to a usb or the cloud)

Step 2) Go to here: https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-ca/download/queue

and log in

Step 3) Under the download queue find your DLC you want to install, select it and make sure your PS4 is on, it will start the download

Step 4) The download will finish and the installation will fail (This is okay) LEAVE THIS FAILED INSTALL ON YOUR DOWNLOAD LIST!

Step 5) Re-install the game, go back to the install list in notifications and select the failed install, it will successfully install

Step 6) Boot game and do update (if there is an update,i think almost all games have a day 1 update)

Did you tick "Start PS4 from Internet" in Power Save Settings?

I had this issue...

Set your IP to static

Turn off the 'Connect Directly To The Vita' option

Pop outside (if using your mobile network) and connect.

If everything works as it should go back in, then you can set the 'Connect Directly....' option back on.

Is there a way to save to a pc the videos you upload to facebook? I made a short video of AC IV with just the music on for a track that isn't on the soundtrack.

Also, are we able to embed facebook videos on here?

edit: Never mind about my first query, I found a way. But it would be handy if we could simply embed the FB videos.

Not tried it yet but can you not upload to youtube?

Great launch weekend rllmukers! All the excitement of E3 and none of the disappointment. Still haven't played any multiplayer as such (I have anxiety just talking on the phone with friends, so it's a difficult concept for me) but with a friends list bigger in one day than my entire PS3 list I expect I'll jump in at some time.

Have to write an assignment today, then back to work tomorrow, but hopefully squeeze a little more game time in today. Killzone appears to have shoved me back on normal mode, but I'm making my way through it now and it is becoming more enjoyable.

I doubt more than a handful of people actually went out of their way to buy Knack. Must all be with bundles.

I do want to play it though as people have got me interested in it. I'd rather spend the £50 on Frazzles than that though. Hopefully it'll be on PS+ soon.

I'm really impressed with the console with the limited time I've had on it so far, didn't get much time to play it over the weekend. It seems lightening fast at updates and installs compared to the PS3. The interface is really nice and easy to use. Signed up to PS+ and downloaded Resogun and Contrast.

Resogun took my breath away. I'd seen videos and sort of knew what to expect, but seeing and playing it live was a real wow moment. NBA2k14 is fantastic too. Looks and plays great and is a real slap in the face to other sports series in how this type of game should be done. I can see me losing many hours to this one. I've not tried Contrast or Killzone yet. I want to have the time to have a proper sit-down with Killzone before playing it.

Overall a great launch experience and I'm very happy with my purchase.

Is anyone playing Knack? Is it better than the reviews suggest?

Having run through act 1 my position is the same as it was from playing it in a store, yes.

It's got more ideas than it's being given credit for but it is basically a "run to area" "kill enemies" "Repeat" type game, but then so really is something like Batman Arkham.

It's a proper 6/10, in the proper "average" rather than IGN sense.

Knack was bundled though...

I don't believe it was, I thought the megabundle was the only official bundle.

That said, yes retailers did but they did with every game. The result is more a function of lack of choice at launch and the fact there are frighteningly already more PS4s than WiiUs.

Whichever way you paint it though, it's worryingly terrible for Nintendo.
