Picked this up yesterday via the US Playstation store, under a tenner for the base game and bikes expansion together. Which then made things a bit confusing as launching the game for the first time threw me straight into a bike race before I'd even seen a menu screen with no clue as to what I was doing, but my word they controlled well.

I guess I'll need the season pass at some point, but when does it become apparent that you need it? Just when you run out of events? And that's all I'm doing in general right, just going through the events as I please? Not got Plus yet although I did sign up for a free fortnight on the US account and that seemed to let me play online with my UK account last night, wasn't expecting that. Pondering whether to take up the Amazon deal, wasn't going to bother with the online side of Playstation but the one race I managed was fun even if I was miles behind the others.

The season pass has some more vehicles in it as well, and that beginning with the bike race was weird. I think just going through the events is the general plan, not played this too much as my times on the challenges will be proof of.

Sorry I replied in my online challenge thread. As I mentioned there the season pass is totally worth it, it adds so much to the game that it's a no brainer, not sure what the current price is mind.

Anyone played this on a PS4 Pro? Does it make any frame rate improvements. This would be lovely at 60fps ....

Don't think it does but if it's framerate (and immersion) you're after you should give Driveclub VR a try for sure.

there hasn't been a "pro" patch, so...

Ah shame been spending some time again on this today.... Such a great racer. Love the locations and personally don't think the variety of tracks and locations in this have bee bettered this gen on any console. The environmental detail on this still impresses... the clouds and lighting... Top notch. Could do with a make-over even just to push the frame rate up a bit.

Still very playable though.... As much as I enjoy those Horizon games really appreciate this for just been a clean arcade racer none of the "fluff" around it. Some great track design....

I never get bored of the tracks in this, compared to most racers.

Indeed... love the long straights with the views.... each track feels like its from the country is from - I've been to Nepal which is close to India... and those roads feel exactly like that. Scotland too... just feels very atmospheric. Not all blue skies...  Love the little touches around the roads that bring it to life too. As mentioned the lighting is some of the best.

Sadly I don't think this type of racer will ever get made again.. far too risky these days. Best we'll get is the Forza Horizon series with all its festival nonsense... not disputing that these aren't great games just the whole Americanism "festival" thing of it all grates a bit. DriveClub feels very European/British and cool in comparison not cheesy....

The servers for this will be shut down next year.

Quote

DRIVECLUB, DRIVECLUB VR and DRIVECLUB Bikes

Online servers for DRIVECLUB, DRIVECLUB VR and DRIVECLUB Bikes will shut down on 31st March 2020, 23:59 BST. All online features (including online multiplayer modes) will cease on that date. You will still be able to play and enjoy these games in single player offline modes. However, the games have significant amounts of online gameplay, so from 31st March 2020, functionality will be affected in the following ways:

You will not be able to:

Use your season pass online.

Represent your Club online in multiplayer events or tours.

Play online multiplayer and compete in challenges.

Create your own events.

Compete in leader boards, or share stats and player progress.

It'll be manufacturer licences expiring, there's not going to be any revenue to even try and renew them.

Still, doesn't explain why they're shutting the servers. The online part for Forza Motorsport 2 is still active today even though the game is no longer available due to licensing.

Probably pure cost cutting from Sony then I guess.

Yeah but Forza the series is still a money maker.  Driveclub is completely dead.

Indeed but its the only Sony owned arcade racer IP I guess. :-\  Sony have probably done an analysis on the usage of DriveClub online and decided to can it... makes sense I guess if hardly anyone is using the online bits.

Guessing the DriveClub fiasco means that there will be no investment from Sony next gen into arcade racers... Also the fact that it looks to be a slowly dying genre.
