I am all for 2nd hand sales and I am against overpriced DD pricing on all formats

However I think once prices drop to around the £10 mark (and alot less) for ex full price disc releases its probably time to stop with the whole "yeah but if I went on ebay and got a skanky 2nd hand scratched to shit copy id save £3". I could probably get a copy of Tomb Raider legend for less than £2.69 if I tried (i got world at war at a car boot for £1 the other week)

There is always a lower pricepoint and option to buying new even if something is dead cheap brand new from manufacturer. No matter how cheap you go on amazon marketplace for a book someone will sell it for 1p, ditto games.

unless of course you think all DD prices and sale prices should be based on an Ebay search for 2nd hand copies?

As a matter of interest what do you think is a fair sale price for those Assassins Creed games? and the £2.69 games?

I'm sure they are, but as an insta-buy decision £2.69 is pretty good to have it sitting there on your dashboard.

Thirded. I've been cynical about the pricing of GOnD for a while now, but these are genuine sale prices. Comparing them to second hand, unknown condition copies isn't really a valid way of judging the discounts.

Amazon have the AC 1 and 2 double pack on 360 for £14 so GoD is still more expensive compared to new copies so I would say it depends on how likely you are to replay them if they're sat on the dash compared to having to dig out the disk when you want to play them

I went ahead and got Halo 3 and Reach last night, because I simply couldn't find them for under a tenner anywhere reputable. So I think they're sensible prices for "new" software. If you prefer used then I doubt there will ever be a download price that matches it, except for seriously out of print games.

Now waiting for MGS HD and Peace Walker. If I can get both for under £15 total I'm sold.

(This shouldn't be a yearly sale, though. For the old titles should be the sort of prices they're charging normally. These are hardly going to undercut retail outlets that for the most part simply don't have new copies any more.)

Indeed, once you've sold out the actual print run then the only copies being sold are going to be primarily used copies. For older games then they should all be available at a sub £10 mark most of the time. Once you've stopped receiving decent money through the sales of physical copies then digital sales are just additional profit.

Exactly this. I already own a copy of Tomb Raider Legend and bought the DLC Anniversary packs. Having the DD version of Legend means that I can now play Anniversary without putting the Legend disc in and at £2.69 it's a double-dip no brainer.

are the DLC packs identical to the full Anniversary release?

I've not got any Assassin's Creed games. Number 2 is the best place to start, right?

yes , and probably stop :) well it was for me anyway loved 2 and found I was done with the whole thing after plugging alot of hrs in 2.

However some say Brotherhood is best so erm yeah your mileage may vary

defo dont start with 1 and indeed maybe not even bother with 1

I've bought games on download before just to have em on my xbox. Borderlands and EDF I paid £20 a pop for - the same price as I paid at retail.

If the game is good enough the convenience makes if worth it.

Is there a list up for today?

EDIT - in OP :)

Bugger! Just bought a load more MS Points last night in preparation. Can't believe it works out cheaper to pay £'s instead of points.

Oddly, they've dropped the points price of GRID to 320 now, which makes it cheaper to buy with points. Maybe the one game I used for comparison was actually the only one incorrectly priced?

FFS i paid 480 yesterday, think i could ask for a refund of the difference?

It's assumed by most people that all xbox games on demand are priced extremely high when the reality is that many tiers of pricing exist and are fairly regularly updated. They may not reflect the price you can pick them up for pre-owned but generally they are less than you might expect.

This may be true, but without a way to sort by, ya know, price, it's fucking impossible to see what's what.

Why don't they at least have the price on the actual icon as well? Why do you have to click on the game to see what the price is?

While there are publishers who set rational prices, MS should be leading the way and I don't see how £25 for Halo 3 makes even the slightest bit of sense.

The Xbox website is fucking dreadful for browsing. You'd think they would make it easy to see the sale items as presumably they want to sell as many as possible but its almost impossible to find out which titles are on sale from the website alone. You've got to either look on here or something like HUKD to find out which games are discounted.

And none of their apps (Xbox Games on Windows 8, Smartglass on iOS) lets you shop for stuff either.

I'm just waiting here to give you my money, dudes.
