Counterstrike

I'll join in some games when they're up. I'm still not convinced that it's the game for me, but I'm willing to give it another try.

I think it looks bad, the levels are too small, the gameplay is too limited, the frontend sucks, the animation is horrible, the shopping system is flawed, the games follow up to quickly and the rounds are over too soon though, so don't expect too much praise from me.

The games follow up too quickly? What do you want, a mighty great pause? This is suitable for some games like pgr2 for selecting cars/tracks etc, but I think its ok as it is.

Yes the animation is crappy but it more than does the job and doesn't get in the way of the great gameplay.

I wouldn't say the levels were too small, they seem just right. Too big and it could get tedious, trying the find the last person etc.

The frontend is fine for me and hasn't ever given me any problems. Its not wonderful but does the job.

The rounds are only over quickly if you get killed quickly usually, they differ in time alot though which I personally like, I wouldn't like each round to last too long, it would get boring.

The gameplay is particularly limited I don't think, theres lots of scope for completing objectives how you want to in any way you want.

I also see nothing wrong with the shopping system.

I guess a lot of people haven't bought it cos they've been playing it for nearly a decade on the PC.

I would get it but I have RS3 and I don't want another FPS until Halo 2, simply cos they're stupid on consoles.

we need to get a little rllmuk team going. I might see if there are any players from ntsc willing to face off against us. Could be fun.

edit: right i've posted about a rllmuk vs ntsc game over at ntsc. Who'd be up for it then? You dont need to be shit hot. Just leave that to me*.

*joke.

I'll be buying this tomorrow, so if anyone wants a game tomorrow night I'm up for it.

I should be around as well. It'll be nice to play a few games that aren't full of annoying american children.

This game does seem to be full of americans (Not always a bad thing), Where as R63 had lots of British players on.

Yeah i'd be up for that, As i said before it'll be pretty good to get a few games going that involve actual tactics and working as a team rather than just running around the place.I must learn more of the maps though, I know a few pretty well now, My favourites being Miami and Prodigy (I think that's what it's called).

What's happening Sunday? <_<

Do you still live in Bristol Ed? I remember some posts on the Edge forum weere you did the fairplay campaign in Broadmead.

I'm (mostly) living in Oxford now but come back to Bristol for the holidays (where I am now).

Sunday I go back to uni and have to use the uni's net connection. There's about a 0.1% chance that their firewall will let Xbox Live work.

It's sooooo much better than the PC version.

I'm really sorry Geldra, but after you left yesterday me, dizogg & basil had the best game i've ever had of CS. Including many years of PC playing. It was 5 vs 5, completely evenly matched and incredibly tactical. We'd lock down a tactic, they'd suss it, so we'd work on something else then start winning again. Really satisfying it was.

Sorry for declining last night, Kerraig. I have got the game (a present) but tried it for 10 seconds and haven't put it back on since. I'm a complete newbie at this also so I wasn't sure if I would be a pain in the arse. Is it even worth going online what with so many CS die hards out there?

I'd say hell yeah.

Thats why i like it so much. I STILL haven't got the hang of rainbow six and keep getting my arse handed to me. CS is such a basic FPS that all you need to do is learn the map and you're as good as anybody. Last night I got in a gunfight that took my health down to 15, so I just got behind geldra and west is best and just provided cover when they were reloading. your teammates can keep you alive.

I was a noob this time last week but i've picked it up in no time at all.

i knew that would be the case. You know what, i left to get an early night for work today. I was still wide awake at 3am <_<.

Also it looks like Counter Strike is about as popular a bad case of genital warts over at ntsc so we'll just have to stick to killing random people. I'll probably be on at some point theneet (tonight).

  • 2 weeks later...

I haven't played Rainbow Six, but how can it be better than counterstrike? When I first got counterstrike, for the first few hours I thought I'd wasted my money and was a bit pissed off. But now I absolutly love it, play it way more than pgr2, despite having to play usually with gayers on CS (although theres plenty of decent people too). Counterstrike is great.

Because there is alot more tactical options in R6. You have to think about every move you make... every bullet fired. Different ways to out smart the other team. R6 is great :(

I dont see how there are more tactical options in R6 compared to CS. I would say that they are both of the same ilk only R6 is slower paced. I havent played a single game of competitive R6 where i have played as part of a team. Dont get me wrong i love stuff like Terrorist Hunt on R6 with 4 players against the computer but i find CS more satisfying. I'm guessing elmo that you havent played CS as part of a team with everyone working together cos its quite difficult to find a game against randoms where that happens.

Well done, you have just described Counter-Strike. :(

Don't get me wrong Rainbow Six 3 and Counter-Strike are both great games but due to the objective nature of C-S it is more tactical.

Admittedly I haven't played the game online, I had a quick go on Hitcher's copy just to see how to play it and how it felt.

It didn't really grab me. It seemed like the emphasis is on running around and shooting, I can't see how you can tactically do that much when the emphasis is put so much on speed due to the short rounds of play.

I just thought RTCW did this a lot better, so didn't bother buying CS.
