Fake Gba Games

Tut tut HM, I thought we all knew about that one...

I haven't been dumb enough myself but I did think about it a few days ago. The amount of auctions with re-used or non-existant pictures says it all. Around 80-90 percent of all GBA auctions I've seen look suspect.

Why haven't ebay done anything about this? Has anyone reported to them how big a problem it is? Surely it goes against and greatly damages what ebay stands for?

Same here.

Just before Xmas I got 'Advance Wars 2' for my son as a present.

The guy had 100% positive feedback (about 20 items IIRC), factory sealed copy and the pics were genuine.

When I got it the case was still flat, the manual was only a few pages, the sticker on the cart wasn't straight and didn't have the little impressed letter on it.

When I booted it up I got the bloody Mode7 hackers intro before the game started.

Bastard was banned.

Ended up buying him another one, the annoying thing is I can't do anything with it now.

Sell it on ebay

I had this done to me too. I bought Advance Wars - the ox was flattened out, the manual only a few pages long, the cart a different colour and sketchily put together and the images looked unusual. The game itself played fine, and I didn't realise it was a fake until much later. It's a marr on eBays otherwise decent record.

It's a good job, but still fake.

How prevalent is this? Is it limited to Ebay sellers?

I also got stung by this. Bought a copy of Harvest Moon for the GBC from Ebay and when it arrived it was clearly fake. Works fine though so I didn't lose any sleep over it, but was pretty annoyed.

Since then the only Gameboy games I've bought off Ebay (Klonoa and Metroid 2) where clearly marked as being "used" games and they are definitely not fake (the screw is a dead giveaway - most fakes have a regular phillips screwhead, whereas nintendo use a "special tool required" screw).

Sometimes you can even spot the fakes by looking at the picture posted by the seller. For example I've seen many games where a GBC only game is in an old school GB grey cart instead of the see-through different shaped GBC cart, and other times where the thumb grip with "Nintendo Gameboy" printed on it is flat instead of rounded - or sometimes doesn't even say "Gameboy" on it.

I've seen these in indie shops and on Ebay - so it's very prevalent.

Some Gameboy Colour games were in the old style carts, not sure if there were any grey ones, but like Pokemon Gold / Silver came in gold / silver old sytle gameboy carts, and also I think Bomberman (something) in a black one. Was there not a time when Nintendo made GBC carts that still worked in original gameboys?!

I stopped buying GBA games from eBay long ago, not much comes out that I want anyway. As for that sellers feedback that was posted...

All games cart only and the seller in Hong Kong... nuff said!

Ebay's still great though, you just have to be careful. Only buy of people with plenty of good feedback (100+), and don't buy from people in Asia. At least, don't be too surprised if you get dodgy gear when you do. Unless you're buying Jap games direct, of course. You know what I mean though.

I've bought a dozen or so GBA games off ebay over the lsat year, and they've all been legit.

I believe this was because those games worked on non-colour Gameboys also - the new "GBC" carts wouldn't fit in an original gameboy. I could be wrong however. All I know is that I saw Zelda: Oracle of Ages on Ebay in a grey cart - and it certainly wasn't released in that format.

EDIT: I see didn't read your last sentance properly! But my original point was there are loads of GBC only games on Ebay that are in the grey carts, and clearly fake.

Anyone find it odd that there are folk promoting piracy as an alternative to taking risks with fake GBA games? :D

That's because with DIY piracey you're not pumping money into the hands of international terrorists to fund their nuclear prostitute smuggling rackets that Kerraig warns us about.

People don't even seem to care. This guy appears to have sold over 900 fake GBA games in the space of two months - at an average of $15 or so a game - he's raking it in and people either don't spot it or don't care.. pfft.

All goods will be sent by airmail from HK POST OFFICE , which is more reliable. Please allow 8-15 days for delivery. All product will be Protective Case packed carefully with bubble and handled will great care.

;);) I see what you mean. I think there are a lot of parents buying these for their kids and they just don't realise.
