I've Invented Something!

Who here has an Xbox Lite chip, with the switches on the Outside of the Xbox then?

they are still being fitted at the time of writing..

Well, I have invented a Cover for your switches!

very much a prototype, but feel free to have a go at improvement...

Materials

1. Super 8 Video case: http://www.goatkeeper.net/v8.jpg

2. Some " Sticky Tabs "

3. Your Xbox

Right..

i) Take the Super 8 box apart, and keep this bit:

http://www.goatkeeper.net/exploded.jpg

ii) Flip your Xbox over, and fit the part as shown, using 3 Sticky pads.

http://www.goatkeeper.net/underside.jpg

place the sticky pads, so they touch the underside plastic, rather than the warning stickers.

( easily cleanable )

iii) Job done!

here it is fitted:

The only flaw, is that you do not have access to your switches!!

if you need to, swap the sticky pads for velcro pads! ( I haven't tried this)

At the moment, the cover sticks out a bit.. but I'm looking at cutting it down, flush

with the front of the Xbox!

if you fitted it correctly, it's rather sturdy! and you can now carry your Xbox around in a rucksack, without worring about snapping that pesky switch board

Have fun, and it really works!

Do you realise this man actually designs real things for the railway.

Stuff that we trust our lives to.

Just try not to think about it and it'll be ok.

And ignore those old SNES boxes which appear to be holding the carriages together

I tried cobbling together a little cover for my Xbox chip controls too. It was a few months back and it ended in catastophic failure when the CD case I was trying to fashion using a pair of pliers splintered into lots of little bits. I gave up due to lack of materials, tools and know-how.

I actually designed something far superior (maybe) when I first got my box back from Yod@ -- worried about similar damage, or the switch panel just becoming detached when I lug my (normally bulletproof) Xbox around.

I just got some stiff flat clear plastic from a fruit carton and then cut it up and shaped it to protect the switch panel. I folded it over (it was very stiff) by using the edge of a ruler as the pressure point and carefully curving it around. I think I may have also scored along some of the trickier edges with a stanley knife. Then I punched a hole for the LED using a pair of compasses, widening the hole inwards with the tip of a biro. I then secured the plastic cage on with a strip of sellotape. It's pretty much perfect ;):(

You can see the tape here on the right of the shot:

I'm actually going to discuss ways of mounting that switch panel internally with yod@, for my white xbox... but still with access externally somehow.

Way back when the Xecuter chips weren't supplied with an external switch panel, I used to mount a small switch inside a small vent hole on the left-hand side of the Xbox, just underneath the joypad port.

For anyone really bothered by the external panel/LED, just remove it and wire up a single switch as I've described.

James, if you (or anyone else) want your white Xbox modded in this way, just let me know at the time and I'll sort something out.

I want the switch AND LED inside, so the glow is easily visible but the gubbins is not...
