I mean I know Klopp dismissed the whole 7-year itch thing, but, well, it's happened every time to him, hasn't it?

i mean you're talking about two other clubs, one was a second division side that got promoted above their level and the other was a club who keep selling players instead of building, particularly to their rival. you can chart this season's shite from the stubborn refusal to invest enough to renovate the aging midfield.

Hey, I'm just saying there's a recognised pattern, is all. The reasons why will be very different, sure - and I've been moaning for 3 years about the poor squad-building and investment - but just looking at the facts and it *is* going that way at the moment.

Far too many of the squad just looks burned out. I’ll be honest though, after the last few years of every game being must-win, and completely exhausting emotionally (Fowler knows what the players have experienced in that time), this is actually quite refreshing. Not exactly in a good way, but a bit of a palette cleanser and a bit of a reminder that while this club means more than most things in my life, none of it really matters when it all resets again in May and there will be some great days and shit days between now and then.

On course for 50 points, so should be safe by Easter…

I will couch this following comment with the fact that I haven't actually watched any of our games this season (I sometimes watch the goals on YouTube, but that's it), and I've posted before that real life has meant I'm not really caring much about football at the moment. So I may be way off in my observations, which have been formed largely by posts in this thread and the occasional match report I read. None of this current situation is really having any impact on me, I'm kind of just watching it now with a detached shrug, but I do like to talk about it still, so here we are.

Anyway, I said it a little while back, but I don't know where Klopp goes from here. The lack of investment continues to hurt, for sure. But at the same time, this is pretty much the same squad that did so well last season and yet they are, almost to a man, way off it this time around.

It's easy (and lazy) to point at Mane's departure as the cause of everything, but it has massively disrupted how we function and I can't see that the coaching team has got to grips with how to adapt or even what the best 11 is these days. Work on the training ground doesn't seem to be making a difference, trying different midfields isn't making a difference, rotating forward players doesn't make a difference. Too many players are in poor form, yet they are generally guaranteed to start regardless (VVD, Salah, TAA). Too many players are walking wounded (Thiago, Jota, Matip, Konate), so getting a string of games from them is a shock when (if?) it happens. There's no confidence running through the team, and none coming from the touchline. Have the players stopped listening to Klopp? Has he been found tactically wanting? Is there disharmony in the dressing room? Maybe a bit of everything, but it's all a mess right now.

Like @glb, I've said a few times this season that the team just look worn-down by 5 years of chasing for everything. Again, refreshing the squad is the only way to combat this but the board don't really care. Those hoping for miracles in January are likely to be left sorely disappointed - and to be honest, at the moment would you trust the club to bring in the right players (even if we could agree who is needed)?

To bring it back to Klopp, what does he do? He looks tired himself and does he have it in him to go through a rebuild? I've said before that any talk of sacking him is ridiculous, but with each poor result I would be less surprised if he felt he had done as much as he can and left. The break for the World Cup might help only because it will take the focus away from club troubles (even for those not going) and perhaps give everybody some time to think about how to get back on track. I'm not sure I believe that, though.

Turned the game off after the First goal a couple mins into it.  No way was I gonna waste my Saturday night watching that shite.

At least we'll win the Champions League though... right?

Yes. It's in Istanbul and we are wildly inconsistent in the league.

To be honest Im not convinced at all, it was desperate hope that recently we beat City, Ajax, score 7 at Ibrox but lose to Nottingham Forest & Leeds so that means we'll beat Tottenham but nah we'll be 1-0 down (of course) after 5 minutes abd end up losing 4-0

Center mid has been inexplicably neglected for years and it’s coming back to haunt us. Players are too burned out and leggy in that area. Would like to see TAA being explored further up the field. He’s being targeted this year and with Fab and VVD not being at their best has not had the protection. Might be better for his confidence if he’s allowed to grow in a position that really takes advantage of his attacking talents.

i know i'm repeating myself here but how will moving TAA into midfield take advantage of his talents?

It keeps him a little further from our penalty area, which is probably advantageous at the minute.

It was obviously his head, he made the motion pointing to his head, as did Klopp. Perhaps the increase in exertion exacerbated the symptoms after he'd had the half time break?

Diagnosing concussion is not an exact science right now.
