Halo 2 Multiplayer Info

The lack of decent on line co-op is a bit of a blow considering how well it works in Rainbow Six 3 and GR:IT.

I would have also liked to see online only co-op missions that run alongside the main game. Kinda like the co-op missions in Swat. I think it would swell the Halo universe if, say, in the main game there is a bit where you hear that the Human forces have managed to take some key installation or are pinned down somewhere and you lose contact with them before finding out what happened. These side stories could then be played out in online co-op games. You play as a group of normal grunts up against the covenant, so you could have levels like Take the installation, protect your ship against incoming covenant, stranded in the jungle and need to get out...

This kind of thing would just be great, IMO.

Sorry to be so negative, but how will they cope with the lag 24 players will cause?

Much as I enjoyed RTCW (and I LOVED it), it got silly laggy most of the games I played.

I hear from the forum that top spin- a game with 2 players suffers a lot from lag.

I'm going to assume that if this comes about its going to be extremely hard to get a good 24 player game. I'd better start chatting up Count Zero and his phenomenal server again

Having said that, no lag in mm3, pgr2 or c skies.

This seems very like someone running a hacked map on a modded xbox with Halo 1 to me.

Well it isn't, there is a video of this which came out last week (check out newtechnix) which shows it running along with lots of other new stuff (BTW this is a proper Bungie video). 100mb though, but well worth.

Any chance of a link to that video please Rushy? I'll love you long time.

* BattleGround: Halo

Battle as humans (SPARTAN Soldiers), vs alien ( covenant Elites ) in a massive online multiplayer battles. On modified maps from the Campaign mode, you and 11 friends vs 12 enemies battle it out complete with interactive air support from Pelican Warships and Phanton battle crafts, unbeleivable!

That really sounds incredible, and 24 players. If this is true, it's great.

edit: That wasn't in bold when I clicked 'quote'!

Dunno if this has been mentioned, but Edge told us all about this AGES ago...with all the details and everything... <_<

I don't remember that, and I really think I would. Maybe it was just at the rumour stage then?

I have no interest in 24 players at all. 12 is enough/too many.

However, what REALLY matters is that you get all the customisation options you had in Halo one, even for Live games.

Bet you do when you've done it.

"I was playing PGR2 with this guy. His rank was like 46. He said he never played in rooms with more than 4 people. Way to go social gaming!"

Changed your mind, eh?

I've played 32 player counterstrike and 16 player Halo and I didnt enjoy it at all.

erm, bit of a difference between 4 and 12 though eh?

And anyway, Halo isn't social gaming, it's FUCKING WAR!!!!!!!

You can guarantee MS will have dedicated servers for this.

You can have lots of players with a minimum of lag, look at MMORPGs and Planetscape,

These are run off of dedicated servers with stupidly fast internet connections.

Although, I suppose that means there is no limitation to how many players Bungie allows for Halo 2, except for the connection speed of the host. They could set it up for 128 players per team (!!!) if they wanted to, just that no-one would be able to select it for a good few years until 100Mb broadband lines are available in every home.

Hmmm....

:D

Hey! Someone should ask these guys what they thought of Halo 2.

They'll probably say "Halo 2 blows chunks all over other games! It's great to play together! XBOX ROX! And something about being an underappreciated teenager living in an overly anonymous society of consumerism!"

I wonder if they'd let me in if I made a surprise visit?
