Just a little follow on from this post - http://www.rllmukforum.com/index.php?showt...=0entry500265

It looks like they're carefully preparing you for the news :D - http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/halo2/news_6086212.html

On an unrelated note, the funniest bit of that article is: "Bach also denied any plans to turn the Xbox into a media center--just hours before Microsoft chairman Bill Gates unveiled the Xbox Media Center Extender Kit."

Tactics can still be employed in large-scale fights, do you really think they managed to pull off the normandy landings without them?

Besides which, you don't neccesarily have to all go in one big group, set up groups to attack certain areas, with each group having it's own set of tactics, so tactics within tactics, if you like.

Dude, theres a BIG difference between a real life operation involving trained soldiers and trying to get a bunch of american kids online to work as a team.

Besides that, the simple logistics of 11 people speaking at once in a headset means tactics wont be possible.

Just wait and see, but I know i'm right :)

Really? It'll be the first game they do it on.

I'd love it to be true, but they don't exactly have a track record for it...

Do you know there will be for a fact?

I look forward to Halo 2 too... so I can kill ALL of you fools.

Dude, what? There are buckets of dedicated servers for Rainbow 6, counter strike and wolfenstein.

Bring it on!

Do you reckon you can do decals for the MC like for the bikes on Moto GP 2?

90% of my mates pick black. Probably cos they think it's cool and hard. I go for White. Looks like a Stormtrooper. :D

EDIT - took out the bits where I slagged off Kerraig :)

Ahhhh, now I KNOW you're an amateur. I change my colour depending on the map i'm on. Although 'Tan' is my colour of choice f I dont respect the opposition :)

There are?

I only have wolfenstein of those 3 but I've never seen one.

Ahh well! ! :)

I agree with you on this point, Kerraig. I've played in a couple of 16 player Wolfenstein games and really didn't enjoy it. Have played some bigger games on the PC as well and just found them an unwieldy mess. 8-12 players is by far the best for team-squad based games, IMO.

But they're not set up by microsoft which is what was being talked about.Anyone can set up a dedicated server, There's an option when you go to host a game, You can't play yourself though, And they obviously disappear when the host shuts them down.Sony have some dedicated servers set up for Socom which is a better idea.

I'm still waiting for Master Chief to remove his helmet and reveal he's really a woman.

Tssk, that would be tricky, his name is John. He was kidnapped as a child of 6 and replaced with an imperfect clone which died in childhood, as were all the other children trained and biologically enhanced for the black ops Spartan project. There are also female Spartans. John, the Master Chief, was not the only Spartan to survive the fall of Reach, and for that matter, the destruction of Halo. Call yourselves fans. :)

24 player every man for himself deathmatch. That's what I want. Unrestricted mental crazy carnage.

I can see why you are going to hate this though kerraig. You do take a totally different thing from Halo.

Mind you, I'd have thought 3 teams of 4 per side would work. If you see what I mean.

I prefer to think of myself as a reader of books but whatever, I'll wear my geek hat with pride. Just finishing off book 3, I've quite enjoyed them and think they add a lot to the whole Halo universe. If you're not too overly demanding in your sci-fi then I'd recommend them.

I know that, but there are MS set up servers. I played in a rainbow six one called 'XBOX Warfare 7' or something the other night. It played a map for 5 rounds then cycled to the next map.

I like the big all out battles, I just HATE the whole die, respawn, die thing. As long as the maps are designed well enough for you to be able to spawn somewhere safely, things should be fine.

Why have fps's never incorperated spawn 'rooms' that once you leave you cant go back in, or temprary invulnerability, to give you a chance.

One of the problems with Halo re-spawning is that it seems your opponents can see you before you can see from your characters viewpoint, resulting in taking hits immediately without much chance of reply and don't get me started on re-spawning in front of your opponents vehicles, or even your team's own vehicles. Getting run over by a ghost/scorpion piloted by a buddy is the pits, and then there's the spawning on top of detonating grenades too. Work to be done on the re-spawn methinks. I reckon the fairest thing would be to be re-spawned at the furthest point from any other player, or at least from your enemies and also a 'safe' distance from your vehicle driving team mates.

The Fall of Reach was excellent. Surprised more on here haven't read it as it's not only the prequel to one of the greatest games ever it's also a good book.

The Flood however was dire beyond belief. It was really bad. I mean horrible, i stopped reading half way through because it was hurting me.

First Strike i'm more interested in though because it's by Eric Nyland again not William whoever who did The Flood. So give me a brief overview please.

Oh yeah the Brute Force book shocked me into being that good that i bought the game. Lucky thing game let you return stuff.

I'm surprised you disliked the 2nd book so much, as it basically covers the story of Halo the game. I've bought all 3 books but usually lend them to a work colleague of mine to read first, he digs all the military stuff as he was a former marine, the 2nd book is his favourite.

As for the last book, well, it's by your preferred, of the 2, authors and is shaping up nicely to lead up to the events of Halo 2. There's some reader reviews here http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...2397935-2929446 Oh yeah, it's less than 4 quid, what more do you want from your pulp sci fi based on probably the greatest FPS ever?
