Not sure if it's been said before but I've just read that if you subscribe for 30 days of playtime you will be 'rewarded' with a character appearance change if you so wish. Interesting if you're sick of looking at the back of your character all day wishing you had chosen a different look :D

There are also companion rewards for 60 and 90 days of play.

As far as I know you just register both keys to the same Square Enix account, and then as you say, log in using the same account.

Thinking about this a bit more, say I play on PS3 now, so does St Hubbins but take it in turns. St Hubs buys a PC and copy of the game so we can both play at the same time.

If I wanted to also play the PC version for a change sometimes, that wouldn't be registered to my account. So I couldn't just log in to the PC version. I don't know if that even makes sense.

Again i'm not 100% but my understanding is if you want to switch between formats you need to have registered both to the same account.

So PC players who want to play on PS3 will need to buy and register the PS3 version to their account. PS3 players will need to buy and register the PC version to their account.

Ah man! We'd need to buy two PC copies then?! Bloody hell SE. On XI you just had one code that could log you into the game, anyone could use your copy if they had their code from the PS2, PC or Xbox versions.

Tempted. Mostly because quite a few familiar names seem to be playing. But I haven't got a PC or console capable of playing it so not likely to happen.

But you never know..

Well currently every realm apart from Siren (NA) is locked.

Thanks SE, thanks so much. Everyone knows a launch is hard, but this is the second time you've launched it! Just look at pre-orders and make enough servers.

This isn't like WOW, Star Wars Old Republic, LOTRO or even Terra! Then I couldn't get on a specific server, this time I can't get on any :-)

Looks like its time to go to the pub.

While I imagine it is amazingly frustrating for those who can't get on, and while I'm surprised they haven't actually added any more, I think what they are doing is a million times better than just adding loads of servers that will end up dead after a month or two.

I agree the last thing we need is yoyo servers and dead realms in 3 months. I also agree all Mmo have there first two week server hammering. I've never played an MMO where every server is locked. In all previous ones I've either levelled on a quite server and transferred or just rerolled on a new realm.

Sadly I can't even play.

Before I switched servers (again) I was playing my archer. At level 12 I could tell the game was Japanese since she looked like a 12 year old in a bondage swimsuit. I went and found the poor girl some trousers. :)

Currently my new character is archer 16, conjurer 10, lancer 10, botanist 11 and I've just started levelling arcanist. I love botany. It's a very nice gathering system.

I was talking into playing by a friend. Given the history of the game and the sort of game FFXI was I was pretty sure I wouldn't like it but I don't take much convincing to try out new MMOs. To my surprise I'm utterly hooked. If I can't be arsed to quest I can just grab a spare class and grind some mobs and fates. It's very relaxing. Very nice graphic and character design too. I found out I liked it too late and couldn't get the PC CE but I was able to order the PS3 version from Amazon. Just linked my account and I'm listening to the soundtrack while I can't login. It's a pretty nice CE all told.

Depends what you mean by 'done the quest'. Get to level 10 and complete your class quest to the point where your guild leader tells you that you can join other guilds. Go talk to the guild person at the appropriate class guild, do the quest they offer you, then simply equip the weapon of that class to switch.
