Has anyone mentioned the contestant quality this year? It's still a great show and always watchable but I thought there was a real slide. Especially the difference between last years finalists and this years.

The whole way through this series I've had the nagging thought that this year's lot haven't been as ambitious/crazy in what they've attempted to produce as last year's. The recap of 2012 they showed before the final proved that I think, apart from one or two pieces the bakes were a lot safer. Last year every week there seemed to be at least one really impressive piece in the show stopper challenge.

I was thinking that too. Quality of finish is definitely down on previous years. But as you say, still very watchable!

Flicked through the channels by chance and caught this, looking at the lineup what a disappointment after last year from a male point of view. I only watched last season for that fit semi black girl (she's the reason they had record viewing figures), she should have won but the BBC wouldn't allow it due to pandering to the median viewer. This year they all munt with the exception of the girl who may blossom in a few years (btw who under 50 is called Martha?!) but she lacks the charm and charisma of the one from last year.

At least they got rid of the obese one at the end of this episode, I was convinced they were gonna get rid of the guy with long hair.

Not gonna watch the rest of this season as there's not much substance to the show and without the eye candy I'm not really into watching other people bake cakes.

Don't worry, I reckon ITV2 will do their own version at some point.

WTF happened last night!?! :omg:

Diana takes out Iain's ice cream from the freezer after being told it was his and totally fucks up his baked Alaska (yes, its that serious!). OK, Iain loses the plot a bit and storms off after binning his fucked bake... but why the hell didn't Diana speak up when Paul and Mary were tearing Iain a new arsehole and tell them that she caused the train wreck.

Meanwhile "crispy cake" Norman survives for another week. Oh the drama!

I thought Ian was throw the ice cream in diana's face at one point. I;m sure Mary and Paul were aware of what happened, but they were right, he should presented what he could and made the best of it, they would have bee aware of the problem that dozy bint Diana had caused.

Oh also, I have decided I am going to marry Kate. You're all invited to the wedding.

My current prediction:

1st Richard

2nd Luis

3rd Kate

There is no way Norman is going to get through next week.
