Better Call Saul!

I just popped in to say once again that I adore this show. It’s weird to think that when it was first announced I just shrugged it off. I thought it was going to be a one off series that would be a flippant, lighthearted detour away from the intensity of Breaking Bad. Instead it’s been a masterclass in script writing, character development, cinematography and just about everything else. It’s just incredible.

It's to prove, I think, that Gus is trying to manufacture his own drugs. I think. I can't remember him having any connection or knowledge of the German engineer though.

Spoiler

I thought this at first, but Lalo was aware of the Germans because he tracked Werner down when he went AWOL. Lalo knows he can’t come at Gus directly, he has to come in from the side. Werner’s wife is the only clue he has to whatever Gus is up to, and he thinks he can hit Gus there, from the shadows.

Holy. Fuck.

Spoiler

On the edge of my seat through the entire episode. Every scene was just jam packed with layers of meaning throughout.

And the end scene... Argh! Can't take the wait.

Lalo is looking uncannily like Matt Berry this series.

Spoiler

Axe!

So we have one more before the break. It's going to end on a massive cliffhanger; either Lalo or Kim.

As this is Better Call Saul, it has to be Kim's story. I don't expect the Lalo narrative to be tied up until the end of the series.

I genuinely cannot fathom posting in here before finishing an episode. If I caught a guest checking their phone in my house during Better Call Saul that phone is going straight in the toilet.

I never have guests.

I had a toilet break. Phone stayed out of the pan. As did my ipad and laptop. Fathom away.

I stand by my theory now I've watched it to the end.

Man, this is so good. So fucking good.

A great bridging episode. Next week is the mid-season finale, then there's a break - is that right? How long for, is so?

Also, why is Mike having

Spoiler

His daughter-in-law and granddaughter watched - does Lalo know where they live, or is it just a precaution?

Talking of Lalo,

Spoiler

the bit where he pretended to be winded before straight up hacking off that guy's foot was savage. He's a beast!

I also enjoyed the reference to the

Spoiler

Hoover guy, who we know from the flashforwards in previous seasons is going to be important in Jimmy's eventual alter-alter-ego.

It's all coming together 😬

Oh right, toilet breaks accepted. Our elder bladders need care.

I loved the scene between Howard and his wife at the start. One of those scenes where you can turn the sound off and just focus on body language and the overall energy and you totally get where these two stand in regards to each other.

Painfull and sad for Howard. Poor guy.

It’s killing me that the specifics of Kim and Jimmy’s plan are being kept secret from us - I am coming around to thinking

Spoiler

Kim has her own angle at play outside of Jimmy’s knowledge after seeing that U turn she made at the end. Why is it so important to her to see it through on that particular day? why was she so conflicted when her legit career was also at a turning point?

I think it was mostly just to show

Spoiler

Kim's transition from doing something bad for good reasons to doing something bad out of spite. The whole point of her and Jimmy sabotaging Howard's Sandpiper deal is to bring the big payout forwards so they can then use that money for Kim to open her own pro bono law practice, but she's now been offered the chance to do just that by Clifford Main. She's got two routes to the same goal, but she chooses the one that also makes Howard look like a fool because she hates him and what he represents.

I reckon the 'D-Day' con is going to go very wrong: Howard is going to come off extremely badly, or as a criminal, and he's going to get his law licence taken away. Then with nothing to live for, given that his relationship with his wife is so obviously fucked, he's going to top himself, which will obviously have a huge effect on Kim and Jimmy.

It's no doubt been mentioned before, but a guy called Pete Peppers on YT does really good breakdowns of each episode, which I've found very insightful:

He points out from the latest episode, for example, that the

Spoiler

Vet's encoded notebook turns up in the montage at the very beginning of this season where the police are going through (what is presumably) Jimmy's house (with the golden toilet, etc). That's an interesting detail I would have otherwise completely missed.

Yep - we've already seen

Spoiler

Jimmy calling the guy who works there in one of the black and white flashforwards at the beginning of one of the seasons.
