So following on from my post before Xmas in the super Famicom thread.

I’ve been doing a lot of tidying up in my parents old loft space, garage and shed. Also stuff in my garage and storage area. I’m still missing a box of games, for example I can’t find sonic or my arcade stick. Also I know I have bare knuckle somewhere!

But it’s not bad as a collection and weirdly even just looking at it now makes me happy.

I wish I could tidy my parents house and fin a massive pile of swag!

What’s that between Golden Axe 2 and Sonic 2?

Have you got Urban Strike knocking around somewhere too?

I played through Desert Strike during lockdown and really enjoyed it. It holds up really well but it's quite time consuming. I must start on Jungle Strike when I have some free time (from memory, I think that was the best one).

Ah, The Megadrive.

I got one of these bad boys on import in about 1988/9, and hearing the bass-heavy drums rumble as the 'Golden Axe' logo span around in wondrous colours was the end of my 8-bit computer gaming days*.

Much as I still love the Speccy and C64, it was - and still is - the biggest quantum leap in gaming I have ever experienced

*In fact, that was the end of my gaming on anything other than a console.

Ok so I’ve found hang on, toejam and earl, flashback, world of illusion, sonic 1 and mercs!

I have no idea where bear knuckle or sonic and knuckles are. Which is annoying.

I did find my first ever games magazine. That 12 year old me read about 50 times counting down to Xmas 1990 when I got a Japanese import mega drive. With E-swat and golden axe!

You can at least take comfort that even though Eliminate Down is hella expensive, it’s one of the top shooters on the system.

Just think of the poor collectors who blow £1200 on something like Cindy’s Fashion World

Yeah it’s legit one of my favourite shooters of all time, never thought I’d get the chance to own it but had the chance to get it at a really good price (lol). Part funded by a US copy of Klonoa I sold which fetched a ridiculous £320, considering it’s easily available elsewhere.

Have many people here tried bubble and squeak?

I did on the Amiga, as Amiga Power championed it (or rather, their writer Jonathan Nash did). That's handy that you post that actually, as I wasn't aware that it had been converted to the Mega Drive. I think I'll go and try the MD conversion on my MiSTer...

It’s on my MD hit list, but it’s a pretty expensive one and I’m not in a rush to get it. I think I played the Amiga version at a mates house ~30 years ago, along with Addams Family and that WW2 sensible soccer demo.

Yeah, quite a number of games that ended up on Amiga and Mega Drive

Are there any recommended romhack for MegaDrive? I have a bunch of Snes ones, complete new Mario games etc and wondered what the scene is like on MD.

Megadrive has a huge homebrew scene. Probably the most active of the retro consoles, always has new games, hacks of older games and constant physical releases.

Not sure if it’s the sort of thing you’re after but the de-localisation patched games are worth a look. eg, games where they’ve taken a western release and restored the difficulty to its original state.

So quick update from the exploring of my parents loft, shed and general storage area! Can’t find any Saturn stuff, which is incredibly annoying. Also bare knuckle and the Japanese sonic and knuckles mega drive games still missing.

But I did find a box of old master system stuff including an original machine and little arcade stick.

None of it’s worth much. But 10 year old me played the shit out of these games. Zillion II and Bomber raid I bet I could still complete!
