When I finished my playthrough of OG Persona 5, I had around 160 hrs on the clock. It felt like playing a series of around 7 PS2-era RPG’s back to back, as it really is episodic in nature. I loved it but it felt it’s running time, unlike something like Elden Ring which I played for 200 hours and it felt like nothing. I think Royal might of sped things up by letting you do more in a day?
deerokus
The grappling hook is used to skip some of the more drawn out sections of the dungeons in Royal. Makes a difference.
Qazimod
It's the longest game in the series, I think. My first vanilla playthrough was ~97hrs; my first Royal playthrough was ~77hrs. Some of that will have been me being more familiar with the base game, but they must have made things faster/tighter if there's that much of a difference. Laine
I’m playing through Royal at the moment, and I’m tempted to do new game plus for my run with the extra semester but my game time is pretty limited these days. If I go for the extra semester on this run is it just tacked on to after what would be the original P5 ending so I’d get to see both? I never quite got to the end of P5 first time round! It’s 10/7 and Councillor is Rank 7 so I can do it this time round. So much more time to max your social links on a new game plus though!

The new content pretty much takes place after the final dungeon of the base game, but there isn't really much that's cut from the original ending. It's kind of why I think anyone interested in P5 can immediately jump to Royal.

I think I just need someone to convince me to do a new game plus. 😬

Actual dungeon-crawling progress is divided between the new palace and some stuff to do in Mementos - you'll get so far in one and eventually need to visit the other. So there are definitely opportunities to do things in between. I didn't go for a max confidants run, but I do enjoy putting Takemi's accessories on everyone so that I can blitz palaces in a day.
