No Man's Sky - Beyond update inc. VR out now

Recommended Posts

Upgrading from PS4 to PS5: Not only will previous owners of No Man’s Sky on PlayStation 4 be able to upgrade their game to PlayStation 5 at no extra cost when PS5 launches in their territory, but their progress can be carried across to their new console.

FUCK

YES!

Thats amazing - but I wonder what it will look like with PSVR.  Does PSVR work out the box with PS5?!

Nope. Sony meant to be providing free adapters. Nobody knows when or how.

Yeah - why aren't they charging for this - I would totally pay.  And given how much copies of this go for I cannot see how any money is been made from it at all.

I think it's sold enough to keep the company afloat for a long time. If they did like a voluntary £20 'next gen' cosmetic pack you could buy because you feel you should pay for something I'd totally buy it.

Yeah totally agreed. As long as they don't have plans to fill it full of ads at somepoint then more than happy to throw some cash their way.

It sold shedloads when it was first released, and the team is tiny. I would also hazard a guess that the continual flow of new stuff has helped it stay in the headlines and helped it keep selling, so I would assume that Hello Games are doing quite nicely out of it.

It's going to be great to finally play this it a (hopefully) silky smooth 60fps with as much detail as it can muster. It's often felt like a game that was a generation ahead of its time.

I think it's probably a combination of it doing well and - after the iffy launch - regaining a bit of a cult following and ongoing player base. But also because of that iffy launch it feels they have almost doubled down on the commitment to make it fully into their vision (and beyond). It's impressive.

On the commercials, to be fair I've bought it twice in the end (one for each console) and I can't say that about many games. I am also surprised there has been no mention of a paid update/season at some point though (like Elite).

Presumably it will have the PS5 GFX upgrades in VR mode..?

Update: from the hello games patch notes:

"PSVR owners can continue to experience No Man’s Sky in Virtual Reality on PlayStation 5 via the backwards compatibility functionality."

So sounds like it might no have next gen bells and whistles on VR

Don't they have micro transactions with players able to buy quick silver?

They sold a ridiculous number of copies on PC and PS4. Then a load more copies on Xbox. Then every time they released another update they sold yet more copies. Also game pass money.

That's fucking awesome. Though, I'd have no problem paying for the upgrade.

Exactly. For the level of support, enthusiasm, and sheer time I've spent on the game, I would have been happy to throw them some coin. As I migrate to Xbox, I can't even do that as it comes with Game Pass. Initial PR aside, I love Hello Games.

You can still buy it if you want to. You even get a discount as it's on Game Pass.

I have a feeling I’ve bought it on PC (at launch) and Xbox (on relaunch, mostly to see how it ran).

should try the VR mode: what’s it like?

Fantastic on PSVR - if low res which perhaps the PS5 upgrade sorts.

The NMS website says about game save transfer: "PS4 players can upload their save data in-game for download on PS5." But I'm pretty sure that cloud saves on Playstation are a perk of PS+, right? I've never had PS+. I hope there's another way.
