No Man's Sky - Interceptor

You'd have thought that given Hello Game's small team size they'd forgo the extreme secrecy and at least push out some betas to PC in the run up to a big launch. They probably wouldn't have so many show stoppers on day 1.

I like that they're very good about patching but they could probably avoid a lot of it with a change in workflow. It can't make a very good first impression for new players drawn in by the hype only to find a crashy bug extravaganza :)

This is sort of par for the course with No Man's Sky though.

The first build of a new major update is always completely broken and it requires a good bit of patching to get to a stable state.

Curn, curn, curn. All of this stuff is for free of course, and they do get there quickly so it's all good! Best to be patient.

What does curn mean?

I'm pretty sure the patch notes said on PSVR you can use a Dualshock to control the game.

PC seems to just be motion controls though, unless they just haven't made it clear.

You can play the PSVR version with the DualShock4 too and I much prefer it. Using Moves is more immersive, but too much fumbling for me.

Oh of course, because it runs fine for you, it should run fine for everyone.

To be fair to the video outside of the clickbait title he was very fair in there. He looked like he was having a blast with his PSVR save and his PCVR was utter dogshit.

I have this too! Mostly annoyed me initially as I constantly thought about creatures behind me. May be noises from passing past bushes but it seemed to persist when in my spaceship. Perhaps another silly PS4 bug?

Weirdy It makes me feel better that both you and DonRumsfield are getting the same issue as it probably means that it'll be easier for Hello Games to fix as it's obviously not some really weird bug just caused by the specific state of my game.

Yeah but your post was more "well it works fine for me"... when it genuinely is completely unplayable for many, including myself.

Only because his clickbait was being general rather than specific. I don't like the new Youtube thing of "HAVE TO BE OUTRAGEOUS TO GET HITS". yes there are problems. Often severe ones (As seen on his video) but have some respect Mr Youtuber.

If the video title had been something more reserved I wouldn't have had an issue because the video itself was fine. I just hate the clickbait :) But we should probably save that for the youtube thread in OT.

It'd be interesting to see a range of specs that people are running on. The guy in your video seemed to be experiencing the worst effects when the fps dropped. Does he list the spec of his PC? I noticed he was using an old save. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I tried the experimental patch the other week on PC (The one that changed to vulkan) and my FPS never changed.

Quite amusing that on PCVR the run button doesn't make you run any faster and if you run while on stairs or metal slopes you get the effect and sounds of a melee attack. I don't even think there is a melee attack button in vr either.

I played for about an hour last night, just long enough to get my ship fixed and in the air.  Overall I am seriously impressed.  The two major issues I have are framerate (was getting about 45) and the controls for flying.  I don't like holding onto nothing, I am hoping that I will be able to use the sticks or swap to an xbox pad.

Oh and one other thing, why can't I customise the controls, I don't want run on R3 and scan on L3, that's just stupid, I should be able to swap them.

This is weird, because I was definitely running faster by holding both Move buttons rather than just the left one (until my stamina ran out, obvs).

I know on PC pre Beyond you could configure the controls. I had the same issue as you and swapped them round. I know some people on reddit were reporting problems with rebinding after the patch though.

Looks like that's just a PC bug then. I tested it with a distance indicator to be sure I wasn't just imagining it (Like how in third person games a big character appears to be running slower despite being the same speed).

@Thor Dude. I really wish you could get this working for you in VR. Even with the jank and the glitches it's fucking glorious. Standing there on a grassy field, huge hills surrounding you, a giant dinosaur walking past. Knowledge stones that are as big as you. BRING ON THE PATCHES.

With the previous big update I chose to wait out the bug/patch stand off until the game was in a more stable state, and what happened is I ended up never playing it. I reckon I should probably just jump in regardless (PS4). Is it the concensus that the experience is not that glitchy then?

I had no problem with run, sure they weren't pressing L3 like you think it would be?

I think it was the left grip button on the Rift 2 (My memory is terrible). Either way it was certainly draining my stamina. Someone else reported in on resetera too.

I don't remember trying anything with L3 and R3 last night. Might try them tonight and see if they do anything.

people are reporting that the 2.04 patch on PS4 has helped a lot with the crash bugs.

Yeah, for me on the Touch controllers pushing the sticks in does run and scan, not sure if they call them L3 & R3 on the rift.

They do. I'll try tonight. I do like the motion control for activating scanning mode. Hold your left hand to the side of your head and press the grip button. Really feels like you're switching something on in your helmet.

Yeah I love that but it drops the framerate to almost unbearable.

Has anyone been able to play the PC version with a controller? So far I've seen a guy on Resetera saying his Elite controller won't work in the game. Mine won't work (I thought it was because of VR mode) and now there's a guy in Eurogamer comments saying he's only able to play with kb/mouse.

Someone on resetera said a PC hotfix has been pushed to Steam

Yes, with a wired XBox One controller - but the first time I started the game (v. poor framerate, soon crashed) it didn't detect it at all. The second time I played (better framerate) it worked fine. Both times in non-VR mode - I do have a Vive connected but not powered, I don't think it should affect anything. Odd.

I'll try with a regular controller rather than my Elite tonight. Very curious.

Ok this is pretty great in VR (CV1 + touch)

Started a new game and got to the point where I have flown my ship to the first waypoint and its running pretty well on "enhanced" gfx level. There is the odd stutter, presumably when some heavy proc gen kicks in. And some of the graphics are a bit.. odd. Like the clouds shimmer quite heavily. (GTX 1080 + 32GB ram)

Also im using smooth movement and it's kicked off some motion sickness. I've popped some travel sickness tablets and will go back in a bit.

The intergration of the VR controls is both brilliant and flawed. As mentioned baove activating your scanner is great, the integrated menus on your devices/wrist are brilliant. Grabbing the handle in the ship to get out feels lovely, and grabbing plants also feels good. I'd say it needs a little more though, the grab interaction doesnt work all the time, Some items need the handle pulling interaction and others need a touch screen I think.

The ship controls while a nice idea arent quite working for me , though its def flyable , I'd imagine on the PS4 using those controllers it would not be fun.

Even having put a decent ammount of time into it last time around its still a bit daunting, I think VR makes it freshly confusing. Hopefully this phase will pass as the controlls bed in.

Really enjoy finding and scanning the little critters. Flying into space etc was pretty awesome in VR and being able to aim and shoot is lovely. I assume Melee is just punching with your hands.  Running worked fine for me , forward on left stick while pressing down on right stick, But I want to swap it around so I move and press the left stick to run, as I cant run and jump with the current setup and cant rebind atm.

Edit: Looks like there is a PC patch already!
