No Man's Sky - Prisms update out (next-gen shiny)

I data transferred my PS4 save to my PS5, have downloaded everything that seems to be available for the game and can see my save data on the PS5 storage screen - but when I try and play it isn't picking it up, plus its not showing my trophy progress either. Did they not implement this or is there something I should be doing to access my save data? I really want to get back to the Golden Condor for more adventures, it just wouldn't be the same starting from scratch without the old girl.

Ah, found a toggle on the PS5 Home Screen to switch to the PS4 version - loving the new Macro lens option in photo mode.

Yeah I’ve been playing it on Series X and it’s a wondrous thing - I don’t know quite why it is so much better but it’s now the game they talked it up to be right from the start.

It’s waaaay beyond what they talked up at the start now. :)

If anything it’s too complex and busy for me now but I’m glad you’re enjoying it, and glad it’s making you think fond memories of your Dad.

I'm loving this all over again at the moment. I can't remember exactly how much is new, but even stuff like the different sound effects used for different types of surface add to the immersion.

The story missions seem to have been tweaked a little yet again as well. There are times it just gives you an approximate location, requiring you to either use the objective tracking visor or just fly around to find something that stands out. It makes things more interesting than just flying to a marker and doing the thing.

It looks fantastic now too, obviously. I think I might try and stick with it for longer, ignoring the base building for a while to focus on exploration. Once I find the perfect planet I'll think about building a cool base.

So you don’t have to have the first planet you find as a base? Mungbean is ok but I’d rather not live on a planet that is constantly raining poison.

You can build a base anywhere, and build as many of them as you like.

I set up a base as part of the tutorial that's literally a wooden box with a door, but I'll be building a fancy one somewhere else.

Can you have underwater bases?

Also yes! I've never made one, but there's a whole bunch of underwater building bits to use, along with a submarine.

I always get tempted to get this with each new update.

Is there a structure to it, missions or anything or do you just purely go to random locations and soak up all the atmosphere while having a wander about?

There are quests and stories, personally I just go where I feel like and don’t pay a lot of attention.

I’ve been doing the rounds of all my old portal bases since the last update to meet the new animals and see what’s been partially buried by landmass changes. The colours in this latest version are insane! They’re going full on acid trip this time round.

I'll have to dive back in I think - I've got a save game in a good position, but there's loads still to do. I love it when this thread resurfaces. Love hearing the new stories, and feel a weird kind of homesick for places I've only virtually been. I only play in VR on PS4 so I doubt the recent update does much for me, but it is one of my favourite places to be in a game.

Tip for new or returning players - it's true these big updates do illicit a feeling of needing to start over, so to help nip they in the bud in trying to just do the game first. Get to the center of the galaxy finally, finish the story lines (except the base building, unless required) and then I think I'll be free to just explore and hang out and try any new stuff, like the big expedition multi player stuff.

I've only just warped for the 3rd time and 10 hours have completely evaporated.

I've got some new tips I'll get into the first post that I think will help early on, too.

I’m getting into this again (with a new save) since the update too. It’s pretty!

Following the stories on the assumption it’ll guide me through a lot of the features they’ve added since launch?

I’ve hopped around a bit already but my storage space is now constantly a disaster!

Yup, you can do it all in any order but it'll definitely guide you through it all now.

I'm about 10 hours into this and managed to find a big round station with other players on it. Whilst I was there I was waving at a few people and I think someone gave me a lot of really rare metals. I went through the section and did all the missions there and then went to a shop to empty my inventory, didn't really understand where this stuff had come from so I sold the lot for 34 million per item (there was 3). At first I thought it was a reward for a request but I started getting all these magnate achievements and diamond hunter and realised someone had donated the stuff to me to help I guess.

Thing is I'm a bit stumped now because I don't want the money, collecting it and building my character was part of the fun. I've been going to planets and slowly building up my credits to around 1 mil, saving for some fancy bit of tech but now that entire elements been stripped from my game. Can't seem to get rid of the credits and don't want to start again from fresh. Is there anything I can do? I honestly didn't realise what I had and should have deleted the lot or tried to give it away. It's effectively ruined the game for me.

You could buy a load of ships and just leave them some place, I guess. If you build a teleporter on a planet, you could buy a ship from the station, fly it down, take the teleporter back, to the station, and repeat until you're back where you want to be.

On my second play I found getting myself nicely rich quite liberating early on (by manipulating the cobalt market). It just took one thing too many off my to do list. I can see why you wouldn't want it though.

Problem is I can now buy absolutely anything so any sort of trade, upgrades etc. becomes pointless. I don't even know how to trade ships as I'm still in my starter one so I'm going to uninstall the game and move on to something else.

Or you could start a new save.

As per the dramatic comment which you deleted  ... simply put I'm not going through all that playtime again, don't get that much time to play games like this and it's taken me ages to get this far, seems I'd done about 15 hours. Luckily I turned the console off after I sold the stuff and was able to reload a previous save just minutes before thanks to quick resume still being active. Was just before I'd sold all the stuff. Now deleted the lot.

Someone gifted me a similar amount in my last save. To be honest there's still so much to do that amassing that amount of money doesn't change as much as you'd think. I just spent a load on a cool ship, but there are still lots of technologies to unlock that you can only get with nanites and tech modules, not to mention lots of materials you can't usually buy. If that happened to me again on this save I'd just see it as a cool thing that happened, not any kind of cheat.

I think it came to around 250 million all told. I've been slowly exploring a few planets and building up reserves to sell later for funds to buy a weapon upgrade but that much is too tempting to cut down on the collecting. I'll make sure to do saves before I go to that place again as I haven't even seen a shop to buy ships yet, surprised there wasn't some sort of pop up trade window to allow/deny. Reminds me of playing old MMORPGs where it'd ruin the early content if someone gave you too much stuff at once.

There aren't any ship shops, as far as I know at least. Very light spoilers about buying ships below, just in case you want to discover everything yourself:

Spoiler

You can speak to any of the pilots by ships in stations, and either buy their ships outright or trade in your own.

You can also find crashed ships on planets you can claim for free, but they always need a lot of resources to fix up. I fixed up just enough to get one of those off the ground a couple of days ago, and exchanged it for something ugly but otherwise much better than my starting ship.

I've been running round different stations hopign to see a shop with them for sale  My main one has a tiny hold, so frustrating to use!
